Insiders guide to the Bergkirchweih (updated 2015) | The Erlangen Expat

https://theerlangenexpat.wordpress.com/2014/05/03/insiders-guide-to-the-bergkirchweih

Finding your feet in a new country……. Where to buy…. Insiders guide to the Bergkirchweih (updated 2015). Bergkirchweih is considered to be the fifth season of the year in Erlangen, and I really have to agree. This is the time that Erlangen comes alive with noise, bustle and people. Kicking back, letting lose and dancing on the tables is heartily encouraged, and everyone is invited! Look at those adorable little lederhosen! How to get there. Tracht, plain and simple, join in and have some fun, see if this.

Learning German | The Erlangen Expat

Finding your feet in a new country……. Where to buy…. The ‘Common European Framework of Reference’ is the system used to gauge and describe the achievements of foreign language learners across Europe. Basically it is in place so that an employer/recruiter/educational establishment etc can be sure of what standardised level you are at and know what they can expect from you language wise. For a table in English of the different levels click here. Under a slightly different name). Their website is here.

In 10 days time the 260th Erlanger Bergkirchweih will begin, if that isn’t something worth celebrating then I just don’t know what is! Almost) everything you need to know is in this blog (or in the links in pink), you might also enjoy my favourite bergkirchweih related apps and websites which I’ve reviewed below. Where to buy… | The Erlangen Expat

https://theerlangenexpat.wordpress.com/wheretobuy

Finding your feet in a new country……. Where to buy…. Where to buy…. It’s taken me a while to get this list together but it covers all the shops I use frequently (it’s not finished yet). From the basics, to where to find foods from home, to bargains and places to splurge at. I’ve linked the shops to their websites, where applicable for convenience. 8211; Take a Euro for a trolley and your own bags to carry your shopping in. Norma, Netto, Aldi, Lidl. 8211; Discount supermarkets, tend to be smaller than ave...

Clothes maketh the (wo)man | The Erlangen Expat

https://theerlangenexpat.wordpress.com/2014/04/14/clothes-maketh-the-woman

Finding your feet in a new country……. Where to buy…. Clothes maketh the (wo)man. Now I’m not talking about just any kind of clothes here, I’m talking about German traditional clothes or Trachten. Men wear lederhosen (real men anyway) and women get the opportunity to wear a supremely flattering and beautiful outfit which they call a dirndl (pronounced Deer-n-dil). And you will always find a pocket in the skirt, though its only really big enough to keep your 50 cent for the loo safe. Image by Ornella M.

Experiences of an Expat. An American Living in Germany…and Loving it! In addition to figures covered in Chrysanthemum blossoms which appeared to have been adhered with glue, there were themed gardens with Chrysanthemums artfully placed throughout. What I found most appealing however, were Fall displays using Chrysanthemums and other Fall-blooming flowers, bales of straw, and colorful gourds. This entry was posted in Germany. November 3, 2015. This is what I was expecting:. Continue reading →. On a recent...

Welcome | Experiences of an Expat

https://terrijerkemoore.wordpress.com/welcome

Experiences of an Expat. An American Living in Germany…and Loving it! Why am I blogging? What do I have to say? I have kept a journal for much of my life: recording events, thoughts, feelings, the developmental stages of my children, etc. Apparently I like to write! I anticipate dating some of my posts but initially I will not be writing in chronological order. Somehow the thought of that is daunting since I will feel as if I am never caught up! 2 thoughts on “ Welcome. September 11, 2014 at 14:02. Petal...

Cooling off in a German summer – Starting over in Stuttgart

https://startingoverinstuttgart.wordpress.com/2015/08/09/cooling-off-in-a-german-summer

Starting over in Stuttgart. The everyday musings of a British expat in Baden Württemberg. German word of the day. Cooling off in a German summer. August 9, 2015. August 9, 2015. I’m British, I live up to my stereotype daily. I talk about the weather a lot. And whilst I’m not complaining about the present heatwave, I’d be lying if I said some rain right now would not be absolutely lovely. Why does no-one warn you that the summer in Germany can get so hot? Some city beaches even have water, Nürnberg. Other...

Check in to Berlin. By Alie of The Erlangen Expat. And Starting Over in Stuttgart. Whilst we are all expats here (being non Germans) and might stick out like sore thumbs to the locals, it is important to recognise that all expats are not necessarily created equal. Here is my guide to the expats you might meet when you move abroad. You haven’t been to Neuschwanstein/Berlin/newest restaurant in town yet? You really must go. My kid speaks five languages. Let’s face it, to someone not living it everyday, your expat life sounds freakin’ amazing! So it shouldn’t be a huge surprise when people want to come and visit you.
