Life-history trade-offs | Kasumovic Lab

What we’ve discovered. Posted on Feb 13, 2015 0 comments. Our goal is to interconnect the environment and the adult phenotype by understanding how gene expression moderates cellular and tissue development, and how this leads to differential energy use. This will provide insight into the differential costs of trait development, the mechanism behind trade-offs, and how this leads to differences in adult traits and behaviours. It’s going to be a lot of work! Michael Kasumovic and Vincent Duong.

What we’ve discovered. Think you have what it takes to be part of the team? Then drop me a line. To let me know! Whether it’s using crickets, spiders, humans, or anything else, we’re always looking for new members to help us uncover the truth. We have projects and opportunities at Honours, Masters and PhD levels. And if you’re looking for a post-doc position, I can help you find funding. Just imagine how cool you’ll look in your new neo-futuristic research garb! Response to PLoS ONE statistical comment.

What we’ve discovered. Brain investment & learning. Posted on Feb 13, 2015 0 comments. In our cricket system, we have evidence that individuals alter their investment in neuronal development as a consequence of the juvenile social environment. The best thing is that we can now measure this with gene expression! Caitlin Anderson, Emily Morris and Michael Kasumovic. Your email address will not be published. Required fields are marked *. What we’ve discovered. My research generally explores the innate differences between males and females and how the environment, both social and ecological, modifies these differences. I’m also interested in how individuals maximize fitness in what seems to be a chaotic and unpredictable world. I’m fascinated by how individuals use the information available during development to best make allocation decisions across suites of traits to best succeed in a future environment. Drop me a line. What we’ve discovered. Evolution & video games. Posted on Feb 13, 2015 0 comments. There is no question that video games are now part of our culture. Despite this understanding, we still know very little about why people are so drawn to playing games and why they play the games they do. One interesting facet of the gaming community is that men have a stronger preference for violent games. Why and what can this tell us about men and women? Michael Kasumovic, Tom Denson, and Libby Hatcher.
