The Kenyan Connection: Women in the Kitchen

http://thekenyanconnection.blogspot.com/2010/06/women-in-kitchen.html

Reflections of a Young Adult Volunteer in Kenya. Monday, June 14, 2010. Women in the Kitchen. I remember during my YAV interview being asked a specific question, “How will you handle the difference of women’s roles in Kenya? I think this is the main reason why I have been enjoying Kenya so much more in my final lap. No longer am I a foreigner, the mzungu, or that. I think I have arrived here at long last. It’s home, for all its ups and downs, quirks and good qualities. People, to help them.

Lynnea's Year of Service and Adventure: November 2009

http://serviceandadventure.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html

Lynnea's Year of Service and Adventure. Saturday, November 21, 2009. Question: What happens when a group of young adults all raised in the PC(USA) find themselves in a club in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and The Proclaimers’ “500 Miles” suddenly begins to blare from the speakers? Answer: They jump up from their seats, make an empty spot on the not-quite-a-dance floor, and proudly start doing the accompanying energizer! I can tell you, it’s way. Monday, November 9, 2009. http://serviceandadventure.blogspot.com/2009/09/twenty-four-days-in.html

Lynnea's Year of Service and Adventure. Thursday, September 24, 2009. Alright, so it’s been almost a month (already! Since I arrived in Belfast. Time for an update! It’s funny the things I notice about being here, too. For example, I finally figured out what it was about the skyline that seemed so different: very few overhead wires. Instead of having electric poles every several dozen feet like is typical in the States, each block of row houses will. Just wait until winter! September 24, 2009 at 10:22 PM.

A window into my year in Kenya and around East Africa. Tuesday, December 15, 2009. Christmas Time in Kenya. I suppose there are a few reminders that Christmas is approaching and that the holiday season is finally here. For one, the shopping malls in Nairobi are decorated with Christmas lights. Just the other day as I was shopping at a shoe store in town, I actually saw a Kenyan. I'll be with you in spirit. Thursday, December 10, 2009. So, imagine, if you will, that you are hiking Roan Mountain, starting at Carver's Gap and going up to Jane Bald. (If you've never done this particular hike, I'm sorry; imagine a very large hill covered in scrub grass and small bushes. Everyone else.got it in your head? Great fun. Jesus called them together and said, ‘You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,. And whoever wants to be first must be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.’ Matthew 20:25-28. The drunk Kenyan lady. It came to my attention that we as Kenyans look at how bad the Kenyan men drink, and yet we never look at how bad the women drink.I quite frankly find it a total turn off when I meet a woman that drinks, and I’m sure I’m not alone.actually,I know that I’m not alone. We all know what alcohol does to women, for example, why is wine called a pantie remover? Well,I’ll give you the first piece of the puzzle, she was drunk to begin with. 8221; And I have seen this work! The Kenyan Chronicles of a Premed Postgrad. Auburn University graduate spending several months as a medical intern in Kenya. Thursday, June 4, 2015. My final month in Kenya brought with it many great things. Construction on the clinic has progressed very well, the logistical projects I had been working on have reached a point of sustainable practical benefit (hopefully), and the final steps are being taken to be officially recognized by the Kenyan government. The clinic has walls! Tuesday, May 5, 2015.

Insomniac's Dream | I really should be sleeping right now…

Damned If I Do. March 7, 2009 at 2:59 am ( Uncategorized. I don’t sleep. I just sit in my car watching condensation turn into frost on the car parked next to me through semi-translucent wisps of smoke, pondering why I’m not sleeping. Somewhere in the middle of giving advice to those with lost faith in love and continuing down this path of solitude, my thoughts dart back and forth between cursing my biological proclivity to need rest, and my psychological inclination not to sleep. She’s lovely. ...The fac...
