Inside the icehouse: Musings on dealing with the Great Damson Glut of 2014
http://icehouse.blogspot.com/2014/08/musings-on-dealing-with-great-damson_13.html
Newly resurrected as a place to record my tentative beginner's steps in needlepoint. Wednesday, 13 August 2014. Musings on dealing with the Great Damson Glut of 2014. We've just finished preserving the last of the 17kg of damsons that our little damson tree has produced and I thought I should record some notes and reminders while it's all fresh in my memory. The tree only fruits prolifically every few years so it’s likely to be some time before we face another week of constant stirring…. Our technique fo...

Verbal Diarrhowan: Closing Ceremony
http://verbaldiarrhowan.blogspot.com/2012/08/closing-ceremony.html
For when 140 characters are not enough. Monday, 13 August 2012. After the brilliance of the Opening Ceremony, and the fantastic games inbetween, this was something of a disappointment. All the more so because I reckon it was only a decent edit away from being belting. You can't please all the people etc. Anyhoo, if you were to give me the licence to change things about and a handy time machine to travel back about a week, I'd make the following changes:-. 20 August 2012 at 13:55. Verbal Diarrhowan: July 2012
http://verbaldiarrhowan.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
For when 140 characters are not enough. Monday, 23 July 2012. The summer holidays are here. The past school year seems to have simply flown by and it doesn't seem possible that the long break is upon us once more. Obviously, there is always the library, the swimming pool, the parks, the soft play areas and the stately homes with their large gardens. And I'm sure we'll do the lot, many times over. In the meanwhile, let me just have a look at last minute deals for a fortnight in Menorca. The Juniors Sport ...

Verbal Diarrhowan: September 2012
http://verbaldiarrhowan.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
For when 140 characters are not enough. Sunday, 23 September 2012. I'm very short-sighted (around -9 diopters in each eye, to be precise) and I first had to wear glasses when I was 7, in the first year of Junior School. I'm not quite sure how short-sighted I was at that point, but enough to be given glasses and to have to wear them all the time. Doug also need glasses, but unlike me can actually function without them - I tend to walk into large objects like houses and land masses if I'm not wearing mine.

Verbal Diarrhowan: Opening Ceremony
http://verbaldiarrhowan.blogspot.com/2012/08/opening-ceremony.html
For when 140 characters are not enough. Thursday, 2 August 2012. I was a bit worried, to be honest. I've been to an opening ceremony put on by Britain for a sporting event (Euro 96) and it made It's a Knockout look classy and expensive. We couldn't match Beijing for sheer scale, so how to follow it? With creativity, invention and humour, that's how. And how. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Follow Me Follow (down to the hollow). Purl About Town: Picking a project for the other Birthday Girl
http://purlabout.blogspot.com/2014/06/picking-project-for-other-birthday-girl.html
Sunday, 29 June 2014. Picking a project for the other Birthday Girl. This is Shan and she's my special 'birthday twin' as we were born on the same day in the beds next to each other 30 years ago! I wanted to knit her something to mark the occasion, as for me that's the ultimate expression of love; making something specifically for someone and hoping they'll like it, use it/ wear it and cherish it forever. So I set about thinking what I wanted to make for her:. Which is a rather steam-punk name for a pret...

Purl About Town: January 2014
http://purlabout.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 21 January 2014. At Christmas I had an unwanted visitor: Shingles. This is the left over virus from childhood chicken pox that lies dormant in your system until you get run down, at which time it will climb up a nerve of it's choice in your body and attack! And here are the finished socks! The pattern is called Brainless. Which I took to mean - a pattern I could do easily without using my brain. However this was an entirely wrong assumption. The pattern kicks off with Judy's magic cast on. As we...

http://purlabout.blogspot.com/2014/07/plaristo-of-rye.html
Monday, 14 July 2014. But it wasn't just the lovely locals, cobbled streets, castle and cannons I was looking for. As usual I was hoping to find some yarn and as usual I found it. Mr Sheep and his weaving. A cool table top made of yarn, buttons and lights with glass on top. Would love to steal this idea. As I was choosing, this happened:. Posted by Laura Parkinson. Purl About Town: July 2014
http://purlabout.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 30 July 2014. The biggest dilemma came with the button choice. I have so many buttons at home but always nothing to go with what I've made and I end up buying more. But I do love buttons so much I don't think I'll ever stop buying them just because. I went with a simple wooden heart button from Liberty, which helps to balance the pinkness of it all. Sadly a continuing fact of life is that it's hard to get a 4 year old to stand still for a photo. *sigh.*. She still looks lovely in it though.
