Shinto has a long history in Hawai’i, but the very first shrine to be established was Yamato Shrine in 1898, which later became today’s Hilo Daijingu. It serves as the guardian shrine for the whole Big Island of Hawai’i. I wrote up this page to give Hilo Daijingu a web presence when it had none. June 10, 2016. Passing of some dear people…. So in the last couple of weeks since I moved back to Sapporo, I have gotten some very unfortunate news. Two of my friends in Hawaii that practiced Aikido passed away. Matt Stevenson from Kauai and Carrie Yonemori from Hilo. I havent seen Matt in while but just messaged him two days before he died.
