The Garbage Man and the Ambulance. Mo Lowda and the Awesome at Bourbon and Branch. September 30, 2014 · Filed under Uncategorized. One of the first bands that brought me back into the swing of music this summer was Mo Lowda and the Humble. Their gritty alt rock release. Had me singing and dancing in my truck, around the greenhouse and on the streets of North Philly as we worked on cleaning up The Lot. This album has great lyrical content and really stellar hooks. I can’t get enough of it. And, finally, M...

Left of the Dial: Crime In Stereo's Challanging Little Success
http://mrdogg.blogspot.com/2010/05/crime-in-stereos-challanging-little.html
Tuesday, May 18. Crime In Stereo's Challanging Little Success. I Was Trying To Describe You To Someone. As far as post-hardcore goes, no band is currently more true to the genre than Crime in Stereo. They used to play hardcore, and now they don't. It doesn't get much more straight forward than that. Still, trying to pinpoint the sound on I Was Trying To Describe You To Someone. So, yeah, this is a punk rock record. But it's a punk record the same way that OK Computer. Is a fitting album name. It is n...

Wednesday, January 31. Nas Says Death to False Hip Hop! Hip Hop is Dead. I’m only here to review an album, not defend either side. But I will say that those of you turned off from this album by its name should get a clue and at least listen to the man’s argument. Because while it’s not always clear, and it’s not a classic, it’s still a fine hip hop record. So is Hip Hop dead? That’s for you to listen, and for you to decide. 7 out of 10. 8220;Who Killed It? It’s a stretch, but I’d say yes. 5 out of 10.

Wednesday, February 28. Yoko Ono Gets a Face Lift. Yes, I’m a Witch. Here are the facts. 1) There once was this band back in the 60s named The Beatles. They were from England. 2) They came to America and took shit over. To use the parlance of our times, they were kind of a big deal. 3) This guy in The Beatles, John, met this girl named Yoko and they fell in love. She was an artist. 6 out of 10. Rising, No one can see me Like You Do, Yes, I’m a Witch. Only for some, not a must have. Tuesday, February 27.

Left of the Dial: December 2006

Thursday, December 28. Mr Dogg’s Top Five – Second Helpings and Leftovers. Year end lists and best of collections are all well and good, but why must they be so final? Sure, TV on the Radio and Bob Dylan had some great records, but what about all those other records that may have gotten caught up in the wash, or unjustly forgotten in December? So, in the spirit of reflection and the starting of a new year, I present to you the Sixth Men of the year. These are the B albums of 2006. Don’t believe the...

Wednesday, April 26. Epitaph Strikes Again with The Coup/ Mr. Dogg Gets Writer's Block. Pick a Bigger Weapon. I’m having a really hard time writing this review. Is it because I’m lazy and can’t seem to focus? Is it because I’m not really sure what I think about The Coup’s latest album “Pick a Bigger Weapon”? Or is it because this album is so good that it might change the face of hip hop? Well, how should I go about writing this then? Well ok, so what do you think of the album as a whole? 8 out of 10.

Monday, September 25. Guest Week: James Keough. JAMES vs YOUR PRECONCEIVED NOTIONS. If I can be so bold for a moment here…what does the term “Indie Rock” really mean? This brings up the question: What precise role does “research” have in the quality of music? When and why did researching music assume the significant role it possesses amongst the many heads of the beast known as “proper musical appreciation? What is the criterion of a “good” band or album? What are they appreciated for? This marks the end...
