Even if you caught 1% of those fish you'd be doing outstanding but you caught how many? Even if you caught 1 tenth of 1% you'd still think it was an epic day so that just goes to show you how tough trout can be and as a guide, all we can do is increase your odds; so how do we do that? In fact, I've seen a couple pics of brookies out of the Missouri that might have been a little bigger but I've never seen one this size up close and personal. I posted this in an earlier blog entry but it's worth sharing again. This is Jeff's first Missouri River brown on a hopper just as the sun was setting. Can't get much better than that. Tuesday, August 11, 2015. So what do you do with all those ducks you shoot? I really like smoked duck. Again, I use Dakota Buckaroo marinade over-night and then smoke them for about 8 hours, (depending on the amount of ducks,) or until they are firm. They should still be in red inside and when you slice them, it will look like deli meat. For smoke, I use mesquite wood blocks and try to keep the heat at about 150 degrees. Keep 'em where they live. Thursday, July 30, 2015. Yep We were throwing hoppers up at the dam last night because EVERYONE decided to head downstream to throw them. This is Jeff with his first ever, Missouri River brown trout. In fact, I'm not sure if he's ever really caught a trout on a fly before.and on a hopper! This was Avery's first fish to the net the day before.
