The Dragon, the Mouse, and Listening While You Write. April 21, 2014. This week I’m borrowing an idea from a fellow blogger. I just read a post by John (at his blog “All things books, all the time”) in which he answered the question, what do you listen to while you write? You can read John’s post here. This isn’t a sob story. I still listen to music often...
Pig in the River: first things first
http://pigintheriver.blogspot.com/2014/06/first-things-first.html
Thursday, June 5, 2014. Last night I did two fun things, in approximately this order:. 1) A tornado-ish storm was sweeping our area, so I made a little pallet under our bed frame and heaved our sleeping kids under there. They groggily tried to articulate blobby questions about why I was shoving them under my bed (it's really quite a tall, sturdy bed frame, by the way. Totally fit for a tornado shelter), but I convinced them I'd explain it all in the morning. Pig in the River. Pig in the River. Glad you s...
Pig in the River: May 2014
http://pigintheriver.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
Sunday, May 11, 2014. Fit for a queen. I woke up this morning to the sound of scissors on paper and tape being ripped from a spool. It was Freckles, hard at work on a project. I had just hopped in the shower when she came in with her finished project, a sparkly pink crown with about eight pounds of tape. She instructed me to cut the shower short so I could put on the crown. That was the best bowl of lukewarm soggy cereal I ever ate. I've always admired the mom in this scene of the movie Elf. Scout turned...

If you know there’s a risk of incurring some kind of injury or illness, you wear knee pads and helmet, eat extra vitamin C and wash your hands frequently. So why not care for your body preventatively as you use technology? I’m exc...
Atlas Shrugged; So Did I | A Year of Big Books
https://ayearofbigbooks.wordpress.com/2014/07/26/atlas-shrugged-so-did-i
A Year of Big Books. One man, one year: one-thousand-page novels. Atlas Shrugged; So Did I. Before getting into my thoughts on. All that being said, it is with great exhaustion and deep regret that I must report that I’ve abandoned my first book of the year. None of the books so far have been easy; each has challenged me in their own way, but Ayn Rand’s. For those of you who know next to nothing about. Like I didn’t when I started her book), she is best known for her novel’s. And Henry Rearden, of. Rand ...

The Ocular Phonograph | Steampunk Pirates, Weapons and Vampires
Questions for the Author? Steampunk Pirates, Weapons and Vampires. The idea for these adventures was born out of costumes I had made for myself and two friends (the ones you see pictured all over the webpage). Once we wore them for Halloween one year, we received so many compliments that eventually, our characters simply emerged and made a name for themselves. Much researching and a few brainstorms later we had a concept for an interesting tale. The rest naturally fell into place. The Captain and The Mar...

[theo]culture | God in real life.
God in real life. April 8, 2014. Her life is a case study in miracles, one after the other. She never should have made it, but ever present was the hand of God. He saved her life on multiple occasions, all the while pursuing her with the tireless love that ultimately saved her soul. She was a praying mother, an example in worship. Far from perfect, but never the same. Matthew 10:29-31 says,. Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Every copper piece reminded her of her value to God. Every time she cli...
