The Part-Time Woodworker: November 2014

http://theparttimewoodworker.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Friday, 14 November 2014. I Just Can't Leave Things Alone. I'm a few days late getting this article posted but as my old man used to say when he was in the same pickle, "Better late than never". Correcting a 70-Year Old Mistake. William James Andrew Mitchell. The following article is about a local boy who never came home from the war and how his nephew, who he never met, corrected a mistake in his records 70-years after it was made. The issue of the incorrect rank bothered Billy's nephew for a few reasons.

The Part-Time Woodworker: Dressing Stock For Drawers...

http://theparttimewoodworker.blogspot.com/2014/10/dressing-stock-for-drawers.html

Thursday, 23 October 2014. Dressing Stock For Drawers. Given that my son hasn't seen the light yet when it comes to working wood without horsepower, I decided to make him a little video to show him what he is missing. Dressing one drawer side takes about 30 minutes from start to finish, but I have chopped that down to a less than 5 minute video. I hope you enjoy it. Where is the video? Youtube says it does not exist! 23 October 2014 at 06:48. Mitchell, great video, outstanding sound track! Peter Follansb...

The Part-Time Woodworker: June 2015

http://theparttimewoodworker.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Friday, 12 June 2015. Dear, It Followed Me Home. Can I Keep It? While carrying it home, I took a break at the halfway point and used my phone to take this. Ok, a Moxon it isn't, but I thought it was just the ticket as my outdoor workbench. I had to stiffen it up a bit, which I did using pressure treated lumber left over from when I built our deck. I was still pretty light, so I screwed it down to the deck's floor. It wasn't perfect, but it was usable. So I have started to modify the old girl. Angle of 45...

The Part-Time Woodworker: March 2014

http://theparttimewoodworker.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, 9 March 2014. It seems like forever, but I am slowly getting this portable vise together. I just finished the head of the vise today. I made the garter for the 1½" thread from some ⁵⁄₈" walnut and sunk it in the oak ³⁄₈", rounding over the edges of both just to soften up the look of the vise a bit. Once the glue set, I trimmed off the excess wedge and sanded the ends of the stabilizers smooth. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). A few laughs and a bit of nostalgia while messin' with old hand tools.

First Light Woodworking: June 2010

http://firstlightwoodworking.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

Thursday, June 24, 2010. Adirondack Chair - Part One. Chair parts cut and ready to assemble. First I cut the parts required for the chair. Having built a number of these, I have a set of templates made of hardboard to speed up the layout of most of the curved parts. Glue the leg assemblies now, I find this easier than bolting the chair to the body and then trying to add the arm support parts. Again, SS screws and waterproof glue. I drilled the holes for the arm attachment later in the process. Determine ...

First Light Woodworking: Sofa Tables

http://firstlightwoodworking.blogspot.com/2013/12/sofa-tables.html

Saturday, December 14, 2013. I was contacted recently by a friend of my neighbor to build 2 - 55" sofa tables for her home. She had difficulty finding exactly what she wanted at various furniture stores or on-line, or anything not made in China. Finished tables in clients home- 55" x 11" x29". The other requirement was a marble, slate, or limestone top. The tops you see are marble from a vendor in Madison, IN. As usual, the second one went together a lot quicker than the first. Vintage Tools and Cabinetmaking. March 8, 2015. March 28, 2015. Slow progress I know…have been debating back and forth on the tool rack at the front of the chest. Have decided on a simple rack using some walnut scraps and pine strips. I cut some walnut and sketched a curve I was happy with, then cut a couple of notches on the top with my radial arm saw and dado blade to hold the pine strips:. Before you get excited, this won't have any pictures of me doing any kind of smithing. As much as I would like to get back into researching methodologies and getting burned and sweaty in front of the forge, this discussion stems from a comment I left on Terran Marks' blog DIY Blacksmithing. He has a post, Makeshift Anvils. Is useful not only...
