The Scottish Trip

Monday, June 25, 2012. So that brings this adventure to a close. It's hard to try and put four years of experiences together into one or two paragraphs. It's taken hundreds of megabytes and pages of text to get it all down, so I don't think I will even attempt a full recap. We'll take a piece of Scotland with us wherever we go. Certainly to the deserts of Oman, and most likely to any posting beyond that. Thanks to Scotland for enriching our lives. Ye banks and braes o' bonnie Doon,. Italy - Day 18 - Rome...

The Scottish Trip: Italy - Day 8 - Venice

http://thescottishtrip.blogspot.com/2012/06/italy-day-8-venice.html

Monday, June 4, 2012. Italy - Day 8 - Venice. Having accumulated a few more things and spread our original items quite willy-nilly over the hotel room, we spent some time arranging stuff for the next morning's pack-up and move-on agenda. I think we had hit every thing that we had wanted to when we put Venice on the itinerary, plus quite a bit more. Would I return? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Italy - Day 18 - Rome to Amalfi. The Scottish Trip: Italy - Day 11 - Siena

http://thescottishtrip.blogspot.com/2012/06/italy-day-11-siena.html

Friday, June 8, 2012. Italy - Day 11 - Siena. Lovely landscapes have been in short supply on our trip so far. I’m not talking about the wonderful vistas from outside our window in Bellagio, but more about the roadside scenery on our drives between locations. I guess we have, to this point, been concentrated mostly in the northern part of the country which is far more industrialized. It shows in the drives. There really was nothing to see. At times it was difficult for me to keep my eyes on the road.

The Scottish Trip: Italy - Day 6 - Venice

http://thescottishtrip.blogspot.com/2012/06/italy-day-6-venice.html

Sunday, June 3, 2012. Italy - Day 6 - Venice. With Verona having grown on us we were now a little reluctant to leave, but with a destination like Venice on the itinerary not too reluctant, of course. My driving paranoia had also settled down and I was a lot more comfortable both going through town and navigating on the autostrada. Soon we were pulling up to the Marco Polo airport where we managed to ditch the car for free thanks to a very helpful car rental agency. We were ushered up to the topmost floor...

The Scottish Trip: April 2012

http://thescottishtrip.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

Tuesday, April 24, 2012. We woke in the morning and had a nice full Scottish breakfast downstairs. We took a taxi back to the airport and picked up our rental car, a blue Ford C-Max. Comfortable and zippy, it was a good touring car. It easily carried all our stuff. The only hard thing was the first few minutes where I had to think about changing gears manually again. With our time on the island running out we fuelled up the car (whole weekend of driving - 3/4 of a tank! Sunday, April 15, 2012. Our last s...

The Scottish Trip: Italy - Day 14 - The Vatican

http://thescottishtrip.blogspot.com/2012/06/italy-day-14-vatican.html

Sunday, June 10, 2012. Italy - Day 14 - The Vatican. Come on, people, these things are several thousand years old! Keep your grubby mitts to yourselves! We also walked past some wonderful stained glass and exhibits on Vatican coinage and postage stamps. Soon, however, we were back out in the sunshine. Total museum time, 2.5 hours, which felt a little fast for us. We did miss one section of the museum that we would rather have seen, but we felt we got a good flavour of most things. Fiona finished with ano...
