The Sound And The Fury

Monday, 3 August 2015. It's been interesting to watch the debate surrounding the nationalist rallies in Australia over the last few weeks. An organisation known as "Reclaim Australia" had rallies in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney on the 19th of July and they quickly turned violent. On one hand, Reclaim Australia are protesting as what they perceive is the "Islamisation of Australia" and then the anti-racism protesters on the other clashed with police making some ugly scenes. Shane Howard, the writer of t...

The Sound And The Fury: December 2014

http://thesoundandthefurypodcast.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 30 December 2014. We Built This City. One of the most requested songs in our house of late, largely thanks to the recent Jason Segal "Muppets" movie is "We Built This City" by Starship. Having heard it closely again recently, for the 50th time or so, I was reminded that recently this song was voted as one of the worst songs of all time. In fact, it has been voted as such many times, In 2004 it made international news. But seriously, why do people hate this song so much? Friday, 26 December 2014.

The Sound And The Fury: Frank Turner Live!

http://thesoundandthefurypodcast.blogspot.com/2015/04/frank-turner-live.html

Tuesday, 21 April 2015. Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls,. 9th April 2015, the Small Ballroom, Newcastle NSW Australia. It's not often I get out to gigs these days, but when I do, I make them count. The Small Ballroom is a venue with an apposite name. Although whether it was a ballroom or not is a point of conjecture, it's bloody small, holding 350 people at the most. There's at least 200 here tonight, which made things just comfortable enough. The sense of fun in the crowd was warm and genuine. T...

The Sound And The Fury: September 2014

http://thesoundandthefurypodcast.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 23 September 2014. 100 LPs shortlist #42: Primal Scream - "Give Out But Don't Give Up". Primal Scream were darlings of the English music press in 1991, with their soundtrack of the then-burgeoning rave scene "Screamadelica". The album is regarded in the hallowed annals of publications like Mojo and the NME as a masterpiece, capturing the zeitgeist of a brave new underground movement. So what do you do when you're the darling of the hipper-than-thou music rags, to follow up said masterpiece?

The Sound And The Fury: Try this at home, will ya?

http://thesoundandthefurypodcast.blogspot.com/2012/11/try-this-at-home-will-ya.html

Tuesday, 6 November 2012. Try this at home, will ya? Recently I pondered songwriters who have such a great turn of phrase that they just make you sit up and take notice. They write lyrics that are forthright and that make you think. I heard a song recently that did just that, and I think it may have just crashed into my top 10 songs of all time, somewhere near the top. It went like this:. We sing love songs in C,. And we do politics in G,. We do songs about our friends in E Minor,. Has it been 10 years!

The Sound And The Fury: March 2015

http://thesoundandthefurypodcast.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Thursday, 26 March 2015. Bargain Bin Review #5: KISS - Music From The Elder. Firstly a bit of disclosure. I didn't buy this in a bargain bin. I bought it second hand on vinyl. However, as the initial sales of this album were poor on first release, I imagine copies of this would have languished in bargain bins for a long time in the early 1980s. It was supposed to be fantasy-styled good vs evil plot with Tolkien-esque overtones. The film had no chance of being made (despite a fair performance of their...

9999 Songs: September 2013

http://9999songs.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

It's just a blog of songs I like or find interesting. And it will take 25 years to finish it. Monday, September 30, 2013. Song #371 of 9999 - Death is the Road to Awe by Clint Mansell (performed by Kronos Quartet and Mogwai). Song #371 of 9999. Title: Death is the Road to Awe. Artist: Clint Mansell (performed by Kronos Quartet and Mogwai). Album: The Fountain - OST. Black Emperor. By using them sparingly and providing direction, Mansell increases their value and effectiveness as a musical entity. It may ...

The Sound and the Nerdy | Musings about music and other stuff

The Sound and the Nerdy. Musings about music and other stuff. This post does not contain any actual sweat nor actual tamales. August 4, 2010. In the oh so brief lapse in my bloggy style, I became enamored of a couple music-free things and one thing that includes music as a background element rather than the focal point. In a semi-particular order, I present my Summer Romances of ’10:. 3) Hot yoga. When I lived in San Francisco, I had a housemate who swore by her classes at the Funky Door. In Portland&#46...
