The Wandering Gronk

Saturday, 8 August 2015. I don't usually go after Gulls as they are not my thing and trying to age and the art of telling juveniles apart is a complete mystery to me. But the Sabine's Gull is A) One I missed out on a few years back as the spot was not child's buggy friendly and B) For a Gull its quite good looking. So off me and Gemma headed, the drive up was a doddle for once the M6 was not to bad, and my sat nav took me straight to the place (well close enough). Sunday, 12 July 2015. And it was even pu...

The Wandering Gronk: Fantastic Falcon

http://thewanderinggronk.blogspot.com/2015/07/fantastic-falcon.html

Saturday, 11 July 2015. Found out late as usual for me that a Red Footed Falcon had appeared on my door step to some extent within the majestic city of Stoke-on-Trent. Looking on the map on the rare bird area of the Bird Forum it appeared to be at Chatterley Sidings near Genesis Park which I knew quite well after photographing class 350's on test there. But it turned out it was actually at Chatterley Whitfield which to some extent no where near where the map had it, bugger! Saturday 3rd September 2016.

The Wandering Gronk: August 2015

http://thewanderinggronk.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html

Saturday, 22 August 2015. Popped along for a quick visit to Blithfield I hadn't visited here for some years now but as a Crane had taken up semi permanent residence there it would be rude not to pop along and see it plus what ever else was around. Further along were a group of mixed waders a single Little Ringed Plover then a handful of Dunlin and Ringed Plover. Saturday, 8 August 2015. On getting there Steve Seal and another birder told me the bird was showing very nicely so off we plodded. Boy it w...

The Wandering Gronk: November 2014

http://thewanderinggronk.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Sunday, 16 November 2014. Today was all about cops (that's ticks not the police) with Barrow Hill playing Host to my Dad's last 37 (37800) and a couple of 01's I still needed to bag in the form of 01515 and 01520. On getting there using info provided via the End of the Line forum 37800 was soon bagged with it still occupying the area around the platforms alongside 20001 aka 8001. 20001 aka 8001 in BR Green at Barrow Hill. 37800 part of the Euro Phoenix fleet awaiting a return to traffic. The Wandering Gronk: June 2015

http://thewanderinggronk.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Monday, 15 June 2015. The Goyt Valley near Buxton is somewhere I enjoy going for a walk but I don't often see much, there are plenty of reports from the area, but the best to date for me and Lesley is a single Tree Pipit and a Common Sandpiper, not quite the stuff of legends. The weather was not great quite over cast but we weren't in the house and that was the whole idea of just getting out and enjoying the countryside. Plenty of Warblers were seen on our Walk to and around the reserve White Throat, Sed...

The Wandering Gronk: Hanchurch

http://thewanderinggronk.blogspot.com/2015/05/hanchurch.html

Friday, 8 May 2015. Popped along to Hanchurch for a quick morning walk, basically so we could get out of the house and get some fresh air, but also Lesley has not seen Tree Pipit yet and with the conditions being favorable off we set. The clear fell area just behind the woodman's cottage did not hold much apart from the odd Wren. Tree Pipit at Hanchurch. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Penny's Hot Birding and Life! Birding For Fun: 107 for Staffordshire in a day

http://birding4fun.blogspot.com/2012/05/107-for-staffordshire-in-day.html

Sunday, 6 May 2012. 107 for Staffordshire in a day. Well it was soon upon myself and Rich (Local Birding Local People). Branston Gravel Pits did not let us down on the duck front plus an extra wader or two. Waders seemed to be the problem all day where passerines just dropped into place the total opposite to last year. Hobby was a useful bird for the day as we failed at Whitmoor and the Moors. Little Grebe, Gadwall, and Shovler day megas. A great day and great company and a great result. Having spent the...

Birding For Fun: Local birding

http://birding4fun.blogspot.com/2015/04/local-birding.html

Thursday, 23 April 2015. This weeks birding revolved around the Staffordshire Moorlands. Not a great deal had changed at Tittesworth since my last visit although I did see four Barnacles which had been around a couple of weeks. The LRPs were around the conservation area whilst the Sandpiper's were favouring the reservoir. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). A few dam fine Blogs. Saturday 20th August 2016. Birding For Fun: Conwy

http://birding4fun.blogspot.com/2015/04/conwy.html

Thursday, 9 April 2015. A visit to Pensarn secured the long staying Iceland Gull but with the amount of people about it never landed. RSPB Conwy was poor but my niece wanted to go so I did my bit to get youngsters involved. Further into the hills produced a few great looking kites. Plenty of Chiffchaff's about and I heard my first Willow Warbler of the year. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). A few dam fine Blogs. Saturday 20th August 2016. Belvide 18.8.16 Fair E 2. Birding For Fun: West Moors

http://birding4fun.blogspot.com/2015/03/west-moors.html

Saturday, 28 March 2015. I spent a couple of hours on the North Staffs Moorlands today. I had my youngest in tow so it wasn't anything serious. A lone Peregrine was Knocking around but apparently there were 3 half an hour before I arrived. I didnt see any Wheatears despite a good look. Around the Flash there was a large flock of Golden Plover bearing black belly's that means Summer is coming. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). A few dam fine Blogs. Saturday 20th August 2016. Birding For Fun: Worlds End & Inner Marsh Farm

http://birding4fun.blogspot.com/2011/03/worlds-end-inner-marsh-farm.html

Saturday, 19 March 2011. Worlds End and Inner Marsh Farm. Bill mentioned they were heading Worlds End again and did I fancy tagging along. Of course I couldn't refuse with my slight obsession with moorland. Again we managed close views of Black Grouse although we were all stuck in the car so pic couldn't be taken of the 2 males proving who was the better. Further down the valley 9 more were lecking. Birding For Fun: North Staffs & Carsington

http://birding4fun.blogspot.com/2011/05/north-staffs-carsington.html

Saturday, 21 May 2011. North Staffs and Carsington. As dawn broke I was at Tittersworth but a low mist prevented great views of anything. Whimbrel was close enough for the gloom not to affect it. I decided hit Gun Hill plenty of chorus around the best being a Tree Pipit. A few warblers present but only the normal species ie Garden Warbler, Blackcap and Willow. Back again at Tittersworth much better by the time the sun h. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). A few dam fine Blogs. Saturday 20th August 2016.

Friday, 17 April 2015. With a busy weekend ahead of me I got up at dawn today and headed to Tittesworth. I didn't linger too long as I was heading up the moor.
