The Willow Web

Thursday, 5 November 2015. Three Years: How I Really Paid for my Degree, and What it's Really Taught Me. This is a sort of reprise of this post. From last year, about why I sometimes find writing hard because of a condition called Trichotillomania. And I never make it. Most recently, it was graduation. Graduation means photos, attention, wearing a posh dress. Bald eyelids. Ugly. And I did all of this without eyelashes. When I walked down the aisle in the cathedral to collect my degree, I didn't look down...

The Willow Web: December 2014

http://www.thewillowweb.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Friday, 26 December 2014. 5 Christmas Fairy Tales. Hope you've all had a good Christmas, but the holiday season isn't over yet! This is an old post from my main blog that I've given a shake-up, to bring you some Christmas fairy tale magic. One of the best things about the Christmas season is that it's an excuse to get the family together. You might not have an open fire, but there's no reason not to grab your parents/siblings/children/grandparents/cat and have a bit of old-fashioned festive fun. So there...

The Willow Web: Scary Folklore: Motivating Children's Behaviour by Kristin

http://www.thewillowweb.blogspot.com/2015/10/scary-folklore-motivating-childrens.html

Friday, 16 October 2015. Scary Folklore: Motivating Children's Behaviour by Kristin. Following on from the folk horror post by Bethany Scott. I have another Halloween guest post for you! This one was written by Kristin from Tales of Faerie. Kristin is a folklore and fairy tale blogger from Chicago, and she's come over to The Willow Web to discuss how folklore is used to manipulate children. Certain folkloric characters are still used to scare children into good behavior. Though not so well known in Ameri...

The Willow Web: April 2015

http://www.thewillowweb.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Thursday, 23 April 2015. Lindsey Stirling: Into the Woods Medley. Lots of writers like to have music on whilst they work. For me, it has to be the right sort of music. Anything with lyrics and I just end up singing, or typing the lyrics. A couple of days ago, I discovered the wonder that is Lindsey Stirling. She's a violinist and dancer (often at the same time! And her music videos have such amazing, feel-good energy. I've been listening to all of her stuff on repeat pretty much non-stop. The low-key lig...

The Willow Web: BalletLORENT's Snow White

http://www.thewillowweb.blogspot.com/2015/11/balletlorents-snow-white.html

Monday, 2 November 2015. There's just something about ballet and fairy tales which go together, and BalletLORENT. Are really flaunting it! Two years ago, I was mesmerised by their production of 'Rapunzel.'. So when I saw a new show listed in my local theatre's brochure, I was straight down to the ticket office. This time, BalletLORENT chose to adapt Snow White. Like their Rapunzel show, the scenario was written by Carol Ann Duffy and the whole thing was a pretty, Gothic, energetic delight. The programme ...

The Willow Web: Frights, Lights, and Ancient Rites by Kimberley Ford

http://www.thewillowweb.blogspot.com/2015/10/fright-lights-and-ancient-rites-by.html

Wednesday, 28 October 2015. Frights, Lights, and Ancient Rites by Kimberley Ford. This final Halloween guest post was written by Kimberley Ford, and it's all about the history of Halloween and Jack o' Lanterns. Perfect to get you in the mood for the big day! Today, Halloween is seen as a time to munch on candy corn and scare the neighbours with the freakiest trick you can find. A time when pumpkins with terrifying faces lurk on porches, and spider webs, black cats and witches are everywhere you look.

RAGs - Random Acts of Generosity in the local neighbourhood

Random Acts of Generosity in the local neighbourhood. I have been teaching crochet to the members of Urban Innovations in Harlem. Together with helpers at the community garden and members of our Saturday Crochet Meet-Up group we came up with this yarnbomb for the outside of the fence. Angela, the chief gardener came up with the word, seems appropriate don’t you think. July 21, 2015. The Lily Rises Once More. Same flower, new location. The Willow Way - Handcrafted, rustic home and garden furnishings

ABOUT ME AND MY BUSINESS:. I make all pieces by hand made using locally sourced materials, with an attention to detail. My customers appreciate handcrafted items, created with a minimal impact on our Planet, using readily available and renewable materials, and the effort it takes to create such an item.". What are they made of? Can I leave it outside? My Bentwood pieces are best inside or on a covered deck. What type of care is needed? Where does the wood come from? Are these my designs? Feel free to con...

Kyle Bauman Willow Garden Panels

Click image to enlarge. I am always looking for different plant material for my weavings. Primarily I use willow, tamarisk and cottonwood. The different colors, textures and designs make my work different from the traditional waddle fences found in England and Europe. My willow panels are unique not only in their varying designs but also how they are constructed. I weave the panels within a strong steel wire framework that allows for more flexibility in design as well as strength and durability.
