The Wooden Boat

Tuesday, May 12, 2015. We took the canoe to the WCHA NW Chapter spring meeting at Lost Lake. Ours was among about 30 wood and canvas canoes. It was so exciting to finally get the canoe in the water after 67 years in a barn, garage or basement. Saturday, May 2, 2015. Keel and nameplate installed. The nameplate was originally black except for the raised lettering, border and embellishments. I tried to restore it to that state, but the raised features are not very prominent, making that task very diffic...

The Wooden Boat: Ready to launch

http://thewoodenboat.blogspot.com/2015/05/ready-to-launch.html

Saturday, May 2, 2015. Well, here it is. Lots of scraping, sanding, steaming and bending, nailing, painting and varnishing. Made a whole lot of shavings, sawdust, sweat and a bit of blood too. The first launch in 67 years will be this weekend at the WCHA Northwest Chapter spring meet. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). History of Kennebec #10641. Keel and nameplate installed. The Wooden Boat: March 2015

http://thewoodenboat.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, March 15, 2015. Caning the first seat. I thought caning the seat would be an afternoon's work. After all, they are rather small and how hard could it be? It ended up taking something like 8 or 10 hours for one seat. Starting the caning process. This is the first time I ever did this, so I had to keep the instruction book handy. The first three layers are really quick because there's no weaving involved. Two vertical layers and one horizontal. After 4 layers it starting to go a bit slower.

The Wooden Boat: The Keel

http://thewoodenboat.blogspot.com/2014/09/the-keel.html

Monday, September 1, 2014. I bought a piece of oak and made the keel for the canoe. It's almost 12 feet long, so I bought a 6 foot board, ripped it and scarfed the two pieces together. It's just on there temporarily, until after the hull is primed and painted. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). History of Kennebec #10641. View my complete profile. Watermark template. Were in town for a meeting! We met them in front of the National Monument on Dam Square late in the afternoon. It was so weird to see them and. Be in Amsterdam. It was great fun, though. I wish we had had more time to spend together ‘cuz I’m pretty sure I could have filled a whole day. I had chosen Restaurant De Belhamel. An elab...
