New year – new challenges! | Think Teaching
https://thinkteaching.wordpress.com/2011/09/01/new-year-new-challenges
Miss Teasdale's Blog. New year – new challenges! September 1, 2011. Time to set targets for the upcoming year! 1 Go through threshold. I’m due to go onto the upper pay scale this year, so I want to make sure I have checked out all the paperwork thoroughly and fulfil all the criteria. A striaghtforward goal but important! I want to work really hard on improving my personal organisation this year. This means having a level of filing and paperwork that I would describe as “Ofsted Ready”! This autumn I am in...
Awesome Aztecs | Think Teaching
https://thinkteaching.wordpress.com/2012/02/17/awesome-aztecs
Miss Teasdale's Blog. February 17, 2012. We have just completed a cross-curricular unit all about the Aztecs. I found it really interesting as I didn’t personally know anything about them at all before we started, so I learnt as much as the kids did! To start the topic we took the kids into the hall in the guise of giving them a talk on Aztecs, then some TAs led the Deputy Head in in chains and sacrificed him to the Sun God on the stage (hehe! Some other things we did were:. Located Mexico on a map.

I’m due to go onto the upper pay scale this year, so I want to make sure I have checked out all the paperwork thoroughly and fulfil all the criteria. A straightforward goal but important! September | 2011 | Think Teaching
https://thinkteaching.wordpress.com/2011/09
Miss Teasdale's Blog. Monthly Archives: September 2011. September 9, 2011. Today I put out a sign-up sheet for my writing club and was amazed and delighted to have 103 children sign up to take part this year! It has grown and grown, from 40 kids the first year I ran it, to 60 last year and now 103 this year! The great thing is that there are pretty much equal numbers of girls and boys and also quite an even split between years 5 and 6. Say hello to the new Drama Co-ordinator! September 6, 2011. I’v...
The Highwayman | Think Teaching
https://thinkteaching.wordpress.com/2011/07/17/the-highwayman
Miss Teasdale's Blog. July 17, 2011. I’ve just finished teaching a really successful unit on The Highwayman to my Year 5s. We began by looking at just the first two stanzas of the poem – analysing the language and trying to visualise the scene. As we discussed what a “highwayman” is, I was pointed to this excellent Horrible Histories video: http:/ www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/clips/p00h9m20. The children wrote down their ideas about how the objects might be used in the story and what the narrative might be. Finall...

A teacher who tweets. There he goes again. He’ll wake the girls, Camille muttered to herself. He hadn’t woken her of course. She hadn’t slept a full eight hours in weeks. Not since. Bracing herself, Camille padded along the hall. Gingerly, she made her way downstairs, pausing to take in her reflection in the large antique mirror. Grey circles framed her eyes and her complexion looked as tired as she felt. Muriel had a lot to answer for. 100 Word Challenge for Grown Ups. Larr; Going, going…. It’s so...
Creating a new ICT curriculum | Tweecher
https://tweecher.wordpress.com/2011/10/25/creating-a-new-ict-curriculum
A teacher who tweets. Creating a new ICT curriculum. Just before breaking up for the summer holidays this year, I was appointed as ICT Coordinator at my school, a large primary in south London. As part of the interview process, I was asked to deliver a 10-minute presentation on my vision for ICT at my school and my key priorities. This turned out to be a useful and valuable process, which got me thinking about mapping out a new ICT curriculum. Was kind enough to share the ICT planning site. This was a hu...
Going, going… | Tweecher
https://tweecher.wordpress.com/2011/08/02/188
A teacher who tweets. Going, going…. What had she done? With chalk white knuckles, Muriel clung onto the steering wheel like she was on a rollercoaster ride about to take an untoward. Bend She was hurtling off the rails with alarming speed. A ripple. Of panic lasered through her core, slicing her in half. Lily and Beth. Her girls, her brood. Would they ever understand? Would they remember all this? She flicked the radio on; a summery lilt. Filled the car like toxic smoke. Evocative. Larr; Strawberry Dream.
The Spare Hour | Tweecher
https://tweecher.wordpress.com/2011/10/31/the-spare-hour
A teacher who tweets. While reorganising my class timetable for the coming half term, it became apparent that there was a ‘spare’ hour that I didn’t have last term. A whole 60-minute chunk of as yet unclaimed time. In an increasingly packed timetable, this excited me. So, what to do with it? Essential Motivation in the Classroom. Others have blogged about independent and child-led learning in the past, which has also inspired me. Oliver Quinlan’s writing on child centered learning. On independent learnin...
Strawberry Dream | Tweecher

A teacher who tweets. Lily picked at the chipped nail polish on her little toes anxiously. A sickly pink with glitter, but this was anything but a dream. She hoped, when she was older, it would fade in her memory and become something that resembled one. Her mother was gone. 100 Word Challenge for Grown Ups. Larr; Going ‘green’: rating your effort. Going, going… →. 16 Responses “Strawberry Dream” →. Lisa (Woman Wielding Words). My heart sank with the build up to the end . . . Wow, thank you! As I rea...

Thoughts of a Primary School Teacher. 8211; Set up a class blog and keep it going through the year. At the moment I am trying to decide on the best blogging platform to use. I asked for ideas on twitter and got a great link by @relativism. To one of her own blog posts here. In the school. I have been a user and fan of BookCrossing for many years and am thinking about the best way to introduce it and use it in my school. These are the two things at the moment that I can easily implement and get started.
To score or not to score? | Tweecher
https://tweecher.wordpress.com/2011/05/22/to-score-or-not-to-score
A teacher who tweets. To score or not to score? Last week, I went on the second part of a course at the National Science Learning Centre in York about extending gifted and more able students in science. Over both residential periods there were many thought provoking moments, but one of the most interesting sessions for me was about assessment and feedback. As teachers, how can we give quality feedback that moves learners forward? We were shown a video clip of Dylan Wiliam. A score and comments. Dylan Wil...

ThinkTeach - Father, Thinker, Aspiring Leader
March 20, 2015. It’s been a month since my last post. I lost momentum. Gone was the initial excitement that came with finally launching a site that had been percolating in my head for years, and coming off that high was hard. Much harder than I anticipated. What had begun as a creative outlet was now a chore, and the prospect of producing high-quality writing each week was intimidating. Even more frustrating? I knew it was coming. It’s part of my M.O. Is this a common problem for novice leaders? I doubt ...

Think Teach. Inspire. A Jewel of History. Date: March 3, 2015. Posted by: Todd Beach. Written by H.
