The Alcega Project: Troublesome Hoods
http://thealcegaproject.blogspot.com/2014/12/troublesome-hoods.html
Monday, 8 December 2014. Apologies for the delay in getting Project #12 up. I had hoped to have it completed a few weeks ago but some travel, a couple of other projects and work commitments all conspired against getting it finished. It's a simple project, a hooded cloak, but try as I might I cannot get the hood to sit right. I thought I had it solved, but then I just realised that patterns later in the book that use the same hood contradict my solution. Aaargh! 11 January 2015 at 21:49.

Crafts, events, inspiration, SCA. Wax on, wax off…. Today I ve bought some bee wax tiles and decided to melt them down. Guess I can sell some because it turned out to be more then I thought! I used my forms that are made for making “mandelmusslor” (almond mussels badly translated) and some ice chocolate form. I love the wax “flowers”! September 6, 2014. Herjolfsnes/cotehardie work has started…. September 2, 2014. Pearl project 2.0. August 26, 2014. So I ve also plan to start a new pearl project sometime ...

Sunday, March 22, 2015. What My Wardrobe Taught Me at War. Last week, I had the enormous pleasure of attending Gulf Wars, a multi-kingdom SCA event in Mississippi. This was the first week-long event I have been able to attend since Pennsic 32 in 2003, and my first real vacation in that same amount of time. My husband and I left our children with Grandma and ventured south for a much needed break to recharge our batteries and have an adventure. View from our pavilion. Second, I was able to determine some ...

Monday, June 8, 2015. I've been working hard on getting my husband's embroidered tunic. Done by July 4th. You can keep up with my progress on that over on Facebook. Just a heads up: with the change in our family schedule with the end of school and the start of summer, and really nothing but that embroidery going on right now, things might stay a bit quiet here on the blog through the rest of the month. Thanks for sticking with me! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Follow me on Bloglovin'. You may also like.

Sunday, July 26, 2015. Self-Esteem and Other Such Nonsense. My first fitted dress. I use that term loosely. So did the dress. Much of the timidness I experienced was directly related to my size. I've been plus sized my entire adult life, but social conditioning told me that wasn't acceptable, and I felt embarrassed to put photos of myself in my garb out there. How could anybody find a fat girl who doesn't exactly know how to sew in the first place at all inspiring? One sack of potatoes, comin' right up!

Sunday, December 14, 2014. The Science of Sleeves. There are no shortcuts to making a great fitting sleeve. When I first started out creating set in sleeves, I began with a very basic, loosely explained method. We'll call this your standard "magical" method. You've come across this method every time the physical act of drawing the correct sleeve head curve is sort of glossed over in the instructions with something along the lines of "until it looks about right". Until you raise your arm, or try to hug a ...

Sunday, October 12, 2014. In Progress: Silk Brick Stitch Bag. So my newest favorite thing is creating counted thread embroidery patterns. I have an Excel spreadsheet set up for satin and brick stitch as well as long-arm cross stitch. When I'm bored or not busy (which is, admittedly, rare these days), I'll fire up that file and start seeing what I can come up with. Pre-established patterns, like the ones on WYMARC.com. After finishing up the embroidered purse. I'd been wanting to create a pattern that use...

Sunday, February 22, 2015. Cast a Smaller Net. We're modern women. We're creative in our recreations. Some medieval rules are incredibly easy to overlook or ignore when they appear to be limiting to us. We want all the things. Women were considered beautiful when they conformed to the ideal (however boring or standard it may seem to us), not when they blazed a trail of wild novelty out on their own. Who are these women we are looking at? What appears more often than not? Sunday, February 15, 2015. I use ...

Sunday, January 25, 2015. Creating a Sleeve Pattern - A Prototype Method. If you haven't been playing along, I'd recommend starting with my last post. Before going through this tutorial. I'd like to sincerely thank His Excellency, Master Cellach MacChormach, for patiently walking me through the method of sleeve drafting he's been using, and taking each of my challenges in stride. It was his guidance that helped me step back from my doubts to arrive at the method outlined below. Showing a small armscye...
Project Complete: Late 14th Century Brown Wool Surcotte | The Compleatly Dressed Anachronist
http://edythmiller.blogspot.com/2015/07/project-complete-late-14th-century.html
Sunday, July 12, 2015. Project Complete: Late 14th Century Brown Wool Surcotte. A wool surcotte suitable for the very late 14th and very early 15th centuries. This is another dress that uses my current symmetrical pattern. I'm still really happy with how it's working for me, especially when it comes to the pattern layout and fabric conservation. If you were following me on Facebook. When I was putting this dress together, you may recall that I shared the method I use to cut gores. I used my own method.

All about the haunting's in our town Thorne. South Youkshire. Walk around me three times, then lay in me and see what happens. Graveyard in our Car Park. At the rear of Travis School there was a Quaker Chapel, the front faced towards Woolworths and the graveyard was in front of it.
