The Lotus Eaters: March 2006
http://joelandalisha.blogspot.com/2006_03_01_archive.html
Friday, March 31, 2006. We've had some weird compliments since we've been here (i.e., Joel looks like Woody Harrelson, I look like Bridget Jones, we look like an "alternative couple," etc.), but recently they've gotten really. First, in the past couple of weeks three different people have told Joel that he looks like Daniel Henney,. A popular American actor on some Korean TV show. (He doesn't speak Korean, so all his lines are in English with subtitles while everyone else's are in Korean.). Before I got ...

The Lotus Eaters: October 2005
http://joelandalisha.blogspot.com/2005_10_01_archive.html
Monday, October 24, 2005. In Search of Lost Time in Iowa. Gave me a new appreciation for where my food comes from. We’re still too poor to be able to buy free range organic meat all the time, but we’re working on it. Wouldn’t it be nice to not have to worry about what antibiotics your meat contains or whether or not your pork chop saw the light of day? So where does Proust fit in? Last year I set the goal of reading the new translation of. In Search of Lost Time. In the series as well as. Here's the kitt...

Today is the official lunar new year,. Or traditional Korean dress. The best part- for kids anyway- is when they bow to their elders and get money in return. Outside the main temple. The Lotus Eaters: September 2005

Tuesday, September 27, 2005. Sideways and Other Movies. If you want to know what we did when we went wine tasting a week or so ago, rent Sideways. We went to a couple of different wineries than they did, but otherwise we saw everything else- the Hitching Post, the Windmill, Solvang, Buellton, etc. So we basically did everything they did, without the drunken shenanigans, of course :). Or The Brothers Grimm. I'll pretend I'm a real film critic and rate them on a scale of 1 to 5 stars. This is a little indi...

The Lotus Eaters: February 2006
http://joelandalisha.blogspot.com/2006_02_01_archive.html
Tuesday, February 28, 2006. Happy Independence Movement Day! No school today.it's Korea's Independence Movement Day (Samil). So on March 1, independence fighters announced Korea's declaration of independence from Japanese colonialism. The Japanese police and military forces responded by killing and injuring thousands of unarmed protestors. Ere's still some tension between Japan and Korea (and China. I'm not sure how Koreans celebrate today (we'll celebrate by playing paintball [Joel] and copyediting [me]).
