Psychotic philosophy: December 2006

Monday, December 25, 2006. A Season In Chaos . I can't remember exactly when I first heard Sound Of The Dead records compilation album "Brutal Christmas: A Season In Chaos", but I remember stumbling across the SOTD records site and they had an mp3 medley of the various christmas tracks available on "Brutal Christmas" and it was at that point that I had to have it. I knew it would be terribly cheesy or absolutely awesome. It is both and I love it. First off we have a thrashy cover of "Angels We Have Heard...

Psychotic philosophy: July 2006

Monday, July 31, 2006. Get A Gryp . Gryp is a Christian metalcore (though often referred to as Rapcore for some reason. They don't rap ? Gryp is another band I discovered originally browsing through Punkreviews.com (Christian music review site) and downloaded a number of tracks via Kazaa. I have bought their self titled sophomore CD, but alas it was used. I try. On to the music. Overall Gryp is a great band with loads of potential. Unfortunately, they have disbanded so that's that. Psychotic philosophy: April 2006
http://dpthinternational.blogspot.com/2006_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, April 27, 2006. The Third Age Of The Sun . not so gloomy . (sigh). What I noticed with this album (and if I remember correctly the 2nd as well) is the lack of clean male vocals. Perhaps that's what bothered me most on "Sword's Song". The doomy goth feel is all but gone and that's one of the best parts of their debut album. Ahhh . C'est la vei (I think that's french for - There is always "Journey to Undying Lands."). And Rivendell (If I can get my hands on Falagar's 3rd release! This is a fantas...

Psychotic philosophy: September 2006

Friday, September 29, 2006. Who Said Satan Could Have All The Good Music. Antestor is a Christian doom/death/black metal band from Norway. They are the second Christian band to be signed to a major label after Horde. I can't remember what number mine is and it's in a box in the basement.) this is a look at how Antestor (called Crush Evil for the original "The Defeat Of Satan" release) began. How can you not tell they're Christian? This is not my favourite Antestor album, but it is the Antestor style I pr...

Psychotic philosophy: August 2006
http://dpthinternational.blogspot.com/2006_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, August 31, 2006. No intro here (well a mild acoustic bit) but the album just descends into the fast and melodic darkness that is "Stormhammer". The first vocals are a narrative style death metal. This death metal vocal intro starts us off on "The Oath Of Blood" as well. It's a nice touch and brings a brutalness to the songs. "Oath ." has a great thrash like riff and a sort Manowar-ish call to arms feel. Posted by DPTH International at 10:00 AM. Tuesday, August 29, 2006. Who knows, but it's a ti...

Psychotic philosophy: March 2006
http://dpthinternational.blogspot.com/2006_03_01_archive.html
Wednesday, March 29, 2006. This is one heck of a Thrash album. Exodus is one of the Bay Area thrash bands from the early '80's and helped define American Thrash. This is not their first album, but the first one featuring new singer Steve Sousa. And this is the first Exodus album I would own . a copy of . I had to buy the blank cassette . Anywho, this album is great! But you can't help but recognize the intricate thrash riffing by Gary Holt. And one wicked riff too! Posted by DPTH International at 5:32 PM.

Psychotic philosophy: May 2006

Sunday, May 28, 2006. Listen All Of Y'all, It's A Savatage! Out there and I attribute him to helping bring Savatage a more progressive sound. His crisp melodic vocals are a fine contrast to Jon's raspier/darker style and it's brilliant when both are featured on albums (Dead Winter Dead and Wake of Magellen). All that I bleed" brings out the passion in Zaks Vocals which blend sweetly with the piano. "Miles Away" picks up the pace after a couple of slower heavy tunes with very catchy riffwork. And "Follow ...

Psychotic philosophy: October 2006
http://dpthinternational.blogspot.com/2006_10_01_archive.html
Tuesday, October 31, 2006. Who knew he had a great voice for evil or how ignorant am I not to realize that. There are no lyrics except for the story, but there is some fine choral chanting and soprano solos that enhance the brooding sinister ness of the album. Oculus Infernum borderlines cheesy, but it doesn’t quite breach it. The music is quite dark and heavy and well just plain good. The Tortured Soul is doom laden metal with more ambient touches and dark orchestral version of Beethoven’s Moonlight Son...
