This AKTing Lark: May 2015
http://duncmcrae.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Sunday, May 31, 2015. Music: Near Misses 61-65. Failure list number 5 of 7. Rio - Duran Duran. Very strong chorus but the verse sections don't have quite enough and the instrumental break/bridge isn't sufficiently interesting to carry it through to the top 40. Better than 'Hungry Like The Wolf' in my view though. 12 Days of Christmas - Bill Barclay. Something Good - Bic Runga. Kingston Town - UB40. Overall not strong enough to break into the top 40 but will always be a favourite. Friday, May 29, 2015.

This AKTing Lark: 13: Die Hard
http://duncmcrae.blogspot.com/2015/08/13-die-hard.html
Friday, August 07, 2015. I didn't watch this in the cinema when it came out in 1988. Some of my friends did, and raved about how good it was, but then they were the same ones who raved about Judge Dredd and RoboCop 2, so I took it as no great endorsement at the time. But then, sometime in the early 1990s - I forget exactly when - ITV showed a slightly edited version ("Yippee-ki-yay, kimosabe! And I watched it, along with about half the UK. And I was engrossed. But how does it get to number 13? Tension al...

Monday, July 23, 2012. 23 July 2012: Donkeys. Occasionally it appears that this blog gets a run of hits from a particular Google search. In the past this has been "Plymouth beach" (eh? Wee Heavy And A Half Pint" and, over the last few days, "Tour De France donkey jerseys". First up the donkeys are picked up by the helicopter camera with 17.7 km left on Friday's stage. Sagan in green, Wiggins in yellow and Voeckler in the Mister Tumble's Spotty Tour De France Jersey. He still won three stages, equal-most ...

Thursday, April 30, 2015. 24: Bridge of Spies - T'Pau. But in the Top Forty At Forty? I don't know if I could go through it all again. For what's the point if you are never free to say:. This is what I believe. This is a part of me. Maybe it's just a lucky accident, but this is a very special song. Yes, seriously. Wednesday, April 29, 2015. 25: Revelation Song - Jennie Lee Riddle/Kelanie Gloeckler. Next phrase, we're back to D and the thing repeats. In fact, that four chord sequence continues for the...

This AKTing Lark: 17: Romeo + Juliet
http://duncmcrae.blogspot.com/2015/07/17-romeo-juliet.html
Thursday, July 02, 2015. And you have a pop-culture recipe to bring Shakespeare to a new generation. Although the mild twist of Clare Danes waking up ever-so-slightly before Leonardo DiCaprio dies is a nice touch. But put it all together, the music, the scenes, the directing, the script (when you can make it out) and you have a huge stage-show condensed down into a nice DVD to play on your TV. Would Shakespeare be proud? No idea, but it's darned fine entertainment. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
