I’m an academic librarian who dabbles a bit in blogging. I am currently the Head of Reference and Instruction at a small undergraduate library in Minnesota. Adventures in too much information. Thoughts about academic librarianship — in particular, the role that staplers play in an undergraduate library. A community for parents of young kids in glasses, eye patches, and contacts. The site has resources, tips, tricks, photos, videos, and a list of books for kids about vision issues. Click to share on Tumbl...
Kindergartner no more | The Tragic Optimist
https://tragicoptimist.wordpress.com/2013/06/04/kindergartner-no-more
Diams; June 4, 2013. Diams; 1 Comment. Today was Zoe’s last day of kindergarten. For the past few weeks, she’s been oscillating between being really excited about the end of the year, and then really sad about the end of the year. Last night, she excitedly told me that when she left the school today, she’d be a first grader. This morning, she told me she was going to wear “sad clothes.”. From her writing journal: “I am proud of my reading! I can read a lot of stuff! Share on Facebook (Opens in new window).
big. round. numbers. | The Tragic Optimist

Big round. numbers. Diams; June 6, 2013. Diams; Leave a comment. So it’s looking like I’m going to be encountering some big round numbers this month. The first is likely to be my car hitting 100,000 miles. It’ll probably happen by Monday. My sweet, little purple toaster car. It’s a 2005 Scion xB. The second car I’ve ever owned, and certainly the car I’ve driven the longest and the furthest. Apparently the only pictures I have of my car are ones I took this spring to show how snowy it was. Return of the rock hammer for scale: the legend lives on. Diams; November 15, 2010. Diams; 6 Comments. It’s been a while since I’ve posted one of these, but it’s time. And now you get not just one, but two new rock hammer for scale pictures, and as an added bonus, and old one for comparison. I was asked recently why the rock hammer, why not, say, a jackhammer? Well try searching google for “jackhammer for scale.” Google replies with, “wait, what? Zoe at 4 years (and 1 month) - rock hammer for scale is 13.

lemmondrops: the next ... and probably last ... chapter in my life
http://lemmondrops.blogspot.com/2008/12/next-and-probably-last-chapter-in-my.html
Friday, December 19, 2008. The next . and probably last . chapter in my life. I have put this post off for a couple of days because there were important family and friends who needed to know first. And honestly, as Steve and I process the latest news, me all looped up on narcotics pain-killers, I have been at a loss for how I will write about it here. I'll write more later. Right now, I need to go rest. Meanwhile, I will leave you with the link to my latest Catholic Spirit column. Which came out in yeste...
Off The Mark: A little injury, a lot of trauma...
http://www.alioffthemark.com/2015/04/a-little-injury-lot-of-trauma.html
Monday, April 20, 2015. A little injury, a lot of trauma. Hold on to your butts, because this is going to get long and it's not a happy story, but since I can't get the hospital to listen to my story, at least I can tell it here. About a month ago I was injured playing in a hockey game, I took a hard shot puck to the side of my right hand, where the glove padding ends. That I had an anxiety reaction, but luckily this was immediately. Once I did get back to the locker room, I took some meds and I called m...
Off The Mark: Inspired to return...
http://www.alioffthemark.com/2015/04/inspired-to-return.html
Thursday, April 16, 2015. I've neglected this blog for a long time now. I started (and never completed or posted) several posts but it wasn't really in my heart. But I've been inspired and I'd like to get back into writing, and right now this feels like a good place to start. I can't promise a post a week or even that I will writing anything I find worth publishing ever again, but here I go anyhow. It concerns me that young people (I work with college students, so 17-22-ish) still feel like they have to ...
Off The Mark: Stop raising boys and girls, just raise kids!
http://www.alioffthemark.com/2013/05/stop-raising-boys-and-girls-just-raise.html
Thursday, May 30, 2013. Stop raising boys and girls, just raise kids! Do you know what drives me crazy? I mean really, really crazy? I wish we, as a society, could stop raising boys and girls and just raise kids. Where are the girls? Why didn't parents of girls sign them up for T-ball? Don't tell me it's a lack of interest on the girls' part, these are preschoolers. They don't know yet if they like T-ball! Most of the kids who were there didn't even know to run to first base after hitting the ball! When ...

The Peoples Family: Easter
http://wayneandcrystalpeoples.blogspot.com/2011/05/easter.html
Saturday, May 7, 2011. I'm making my way to catch up. What better way to do that than to tell you about our Easter? I'm so thankful for what Jesus did for us! First thing Easter morning, Jacob realized the bunny came to see him! He was saying "ho ho" all weekend. I was afraid he was going to be slightly. Disappointed, but he wasn't! We then got ready to head to church to celebrate the real reason for Easter! Did I mention these two love birds were here? It had a whoppin $10 in it! Posted by Sight Restored.

Tuesday, November 23, 2010. My Baby Sis Said "I Do". Or week I should probably say. I played many roles in this wedding.sister, MOH, mother of ring bearer, errand runner, etc. And to think, she originally wanted me to be the photographer! I'm so glad we convinced her that that might would be impossible! Here are a mixture of pictures taken by several different people, my m. Om and I included. (I picked out the ones I knew I took and put them on my photography b. Log if you want to check them out.). Check...

http://wayneandcrystalpeoples.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Monday, August 30, 2010. Here is lil man with two of his two favorite things. A TV (he gets it honest from his Dad) and his new pair of shoes. I've never known a kid at this age that loves shoes as much as he does. It's the exact pair he just grew out of, and they were going to be a birthday gift. We see how well that turned out! And here he is with another favorite thing. He loves to play ball! He had no clue he was practically saying this to the little boy's mama! Daddy will be so proud! Speaking of ba...

The Peoples Family: April 2011
http://wayneandcrystalpeoples.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Monday, April 25, 2011. Over the last 4 weeks, our lives have been consumed with Grant's eyes, as one can imagine. Something very special happened the Sunday after we found out about Grant's eyes. We had already scheduled to dedicate the little man at my dad's church, and after finding out about his vision it seemed that much more appropriate to go ahead with it. It really was a lot of fun. I only had our phones with us, so I didn't get any good pictures. You should have seen the look I got! Thinking of ...

The Peoples Family: January 2011
http://wayneandcrystalpeoples.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Sunday, January 30, 2011. Our newest bundle of joy, Grant Wayne. :). Has our life changed drastically in the last week! Wayne and I just find ourselves in awe of our precious family the Lord has blessed us with. Grant was born January 21st at 8:15 AM, and was 8 lbs 9 oz, 21 inches long. But maybe I should start at the beginning. :). I was filled with anxiety the entire week leading up to the delivery. (For a short version of Jacob's birth and the reasons behind my anxiety, go here. And he said, "Yes baby...

Ten Thousand Thundering Typhoons!!!
September 13, 2009. Haiku Post - Painful pedestrians. How many times have you had to slam on the brakes just because someone crossed the road like an idiot, in the middle of heavy. Traffic.more often then not - it's a lady - too embarassed to run in public, but thick-skinned enough to want to cross whereever. And the worst bit is that unlike men who will scowl or even shout back if you curse them, women will break into a smile(! When they hear the squeal of brakes and still continue to walk. Living in ...
