John Medway's energy descent: Climate change as the paramount issue
http://johnmedwaysenergydescent.blogspot.com/2014/02/climate-change-as-paramount-issue.html
John Medway's energy descent. Sunday, February 2, 2014. Climate change as the paramount issue. We are currently heading for four, five or even six degrees celsius of global warming by 2100 - ie within the lifetime of many people born recently. Timely action worldwide (of which there is little sign at present) might enable us to limit the rise to two or three degrees. We have left it too late to take effective action against global warming that does not involve some radical changes to our way of life.

(To be honest nobody has ever paid me for being an economist, so my claim to be part of the profession is a little thin.). I'm particularly struck with his final paragraphs:-. Yes, you can find economists at right-wi...

John Medway's energy descent: Prosperity without growth?
http://johnmedwaysenergydescent.blogspot.com/2014/01/i-have-just-re-read-prosperity-without.html
John Medway's energy descent. Wednesday, January 1, 2014. I have just re-read Prosperity without growth? In particular, it seems to me that we could have moved more quickly out of the recent recession if we had had a crash programme of investment in renewable energy and in energy conservation. In this way, action on climate change would actually have promoted growth. More generally, it seems to me that carbon emissions are the product of several factors which we can express as an equation:-. Carbon inten...
