Cali's zoo is renound for being the best in Colombia and when we found out that one of the girls in the hostel used to work there and offered to be our guide we decided this would be a fun day out! Being in Bogota was very surreal, knowing that it was the last place I was visiting on the trip and that I was heading home made it difficult to really appreciate the here and now. What also made it difficult was that it was cold and a bit grey and also, somewhere along the line I'd picked up the flu! It really wasn't the end to the trip that I had been expecting! Location: Bogotá, Colombia.

I got on my last night bus to a town called San Gil and then headed Barichara, a tiny village out in the hills, renowned for it's cobbled streets, white washed buildings, terracota roofs and a it's beautiful setting in the hills. Wanderlust and other stories. Tales from travelling in south america. Monday, 30 April 2012. Hanging out in Brazil. Crazy bag theft debarcle dealt with and we continued with our travel plans. Luckily, we had already planned to go to Petropolis, the mountain area outside of Rio for some calm and relaxation as it was exactly what I needed! It is a beautiful and peaceful area, perfect for chilling out and for me to sort out insurance claims! We stayed in one of my favourite hostels so far, Hostel Samambaia.
