General Rules on Lettering, No. 2. Do not allow the eye to dwell on that which is inartistic; for, just as truly as "evil associations corrupt good manners," just so surely does association of the eye with that which is out of proportion, distorted, or irregular, leave an impression which is lasting in its effect on, and by no means easy to dispel from, the mind. An exceptional excerpt from Elements of Lettering and Sign Painting prepared for the students of The International Correspondence Schools.

turning japanese: June 2012

http://turningj.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Um, new year's resolutions are meant to be broken, right? One of my resolutions this year was (er, is) to blog at least once a week. It was pretty easy to keep that up, but I must admit I've lost some steam in recent. Weeks As much as I'd like to have consistent posts, the one blogging rule I have for myself is to only post things that excite me. Quality over quantity, right? My rule trumped my resolution, but I'm back to share some exciting news. I got a job with Poketo. There are certain films that hav...

http://turningj.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html

Consumed the night prior. Whatever it was, the race turned out to be something I never expected it to be: pretty darn fun. Please excuse my absence these past few weeks? No doubt I've been neglecting this here blog. Can't say I didn't warn you, though. (Refer to inaugural blog post title. Temporarily appeasing that with regular and equal parts doses of Henry Miller and olfactory indulgence, courtesy of Juniper Ridge. Big Sur, I'm coming for you. Some snapshots of the ways I mentally exhale. My name is Jo...

turning japanese: You are the 100% perfect girl for me.

http://turningj.blogspot.com/2012/03/you-are-100-perfect-girl-for-me.html

You are the 100% perfect girl for me. This is one of my favorite short stories by Haruki Murakami. You could imagine my delight when I first read. That Murakami described 1Q84. As "an amplification of one of his most popular short stories, "On Seeing the 100% Perfect Girl One Beautiful April Morning."' I'm surprised I didn't lose all my Twitter followers that day, cause I promptly blew up my feed with Murakami-related tweets. I bought a BüK. March 14, 2012 at 10:45 PM. Oh I didnt know that! And is 32 old?

Turning It Over

One Man's Journey To A Purpose Filled Life. Sunday, December 14, 2008. Feelings Of Self And God. Still having problems accepting that my life belongs to God. I battle each and every day with feelings of despair with my self and confusion towards God. I'm still in the "I" moment and know that it continues to drag me down emotionally and spiritually. I continue to put up great goals and hope but fail to turn these totally over to God. All of this only puts me in a depressed state. And he I both agree that ...

Training Times for Racing Days. Everyday Is Race Day. My top three coolest things I did, saw or discovered. Bull;May 31, 2010 • 1 Comment. As you all know I am an eating enthusiast and let me tell you, from the soup cups at the seven eleven, to the cheap ramen noodle diners and of course the numerous sushi/sashimi/tempura/grilled fish feasts that where had, all where amazing. I have never had such great meal streak. I stuffed my face almost at every meal and was never disappointed. Posted in Adventure of...

Turning Japanese

Maybe, I think so. Monday, November 10, 2003. Sucks To Be Me. But alas, it was not meant to be. I was informed that while my skills and experiences are impressive that I just wasn't going to work out in the position. I suspect that it was the second-to-last interview that I had, as it was the only one that didn't go very well. However, I recognize that I didn't give 110%, more like 70%. My apprehension about the endeavor ultimately doomed it. Posted by Melkir @ 9:22 AM. Friday, November 07, 2003. I’m sit...

Wednesday, August 5, 2015. What is the best Museum to visit in Tokyo? If you visit only one Museum in Tokyo then shame on you. But if your bucket list is so long, or your stay is so short that you have to reduce the entire 1452 museums in Tokyo to just one then make sure you visit the Edo-Tokyo Museum. I'm not talking about headsets, or a booklet from which you can make your own way around the place, but a person who will actually take you around the Museum. Nakamura-san: And can you see that little area...
