Borough of Twickenham Local History Society. Trams were introduced in Twickenham in 1903 and buses in 1910; trolleybuses came into service in 1931 running initially from Fulwell depot to Twickenham junction. The increase in road traffic led to the construction of the Chertsey Road by-pass in the early 1930s and Twickenham Bridge in 1933, and road widening in 1928 led to the demolition of the whole of the south side of King Street.

Borough of Twickenham Local History Society. The earliest residential development is likely to have been around St Mary’s Church which is situated on a natural promontory by the riverside. The present church has a 14th century tower and early 18th century nave, the result of rebuilding following the collapse of the church in 1713. The first dated vicar is William Browne in 1332 but he certainly had predecessors. The widget below displays a timeline of events connected with historic places.

The regular British army at the start of the war was just 250,000 men. There were a further 450,000 trained reserves, including retired soldiers and members of the Territorial Force. As part of the Richmond at Home and at War project, the Museum of Richmond has begun working with local secondary school pupils to inspire creative responses to the stories of the war. Work so far has included Poetry Burst sessions at the museum, using objects from the collections to stimulate poetry writing, and an outreach workshop working with Poet in the City. Session and have published some of the outcomes.
