Latest arrangements included confirming flights, solidifying hotels in Rome and arranging the rental car, which we are fortunate enough to be able to pick up right in our village. Thursday, July 8, 2010. Piegaro - July 7. Another afternoon that our neighbors were out and about and we had the pool to ourselves. Colleen asked if we would like to accompany her to a tasting that her friend was hosting at his agritourismo in Cittia della Pieve, one town west. They brought in all local products for their guests (plus us) to sample including local wines, meats and cheeses and honey. A homemade ginger and fruit tart finished off the evening. Sunday, June 27, 2010. The suitcases are down from the attic, sweet Ward did all the laundry yesterday, and the packing piles have been started in the living room. Ward visited Chase bank this week and changed dollars to euros (great rate of $1.28! I'm gearing up to print out all our essential information (tickets, hotel reservations, directions) and link to the rest here. We're finding chargers, USB. Cables, adaptors and batteries. The girls have finally asked to listen to the Italian language lessons.

We have spent the last few months fare-watching, which resulted in some stressful moments when the airfare increased to 150% of the best I'd seen, as well as one Saturday morning when was I elated when I thought I'd found a tremendous bargain, only to realize that I had forgotten to account for one of the children! Monday, August 23, 2010. Aaand here we go again! Class assignments arrived on Saturday so there has been the usual emailing and phone calling. Two weeks to go. The school supply lists have virtually everything crossed off, the new LL Bean backpacks are in the closets and a cool rainy Monday found me making the first batch of soup of the season (Roasted Garlic and Eggplant). Ward's 50th is also approaching, but will be marked mainly by a nice multi-course dinner at home. Yay for the new (school) year!

Thursday, October 15, 2009. The Family at Fifty. To celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary, Bernice and Ward took the whole clan to Split Rock Resort in Pennsylvania. It's a great family resort - one part Dirty Dancing (charades lakeside) and one part Great Wolf Lodge (indoor water park). Monday, March 15, 2010. Powerless.a general update. We survived our wild weather weekend (entire winter? With no flooding. The power outages were survivable, just 24 hours.
