July 27, 2015 · 2:50 pm. I’m cogitating over the next thing – podcasts. I’m Im aware of them as a resource but quite like listening to music on the radio or the news at the times they’d fit into my life. If anyone knows any good free MOOCs or similar please let me know. One response to “. July 29, 2015 at 8:12 am. There are podcasts about almost any subject you can think of! My favourites are Radiolab (fascinating explorations into science and social science), The Infinite Monkey Cage (BBC Radio 4 scienc...

Reflections thing 11 →. August 17, 2015 · 8:10 am. Live streaming opens up loads of possibilities, it certainly takes Twitter chats a stage further if we’re using the google hangout options. Also, if you’re missing a conference it adds an option to live stream it (with permission). Unfortunately, people didn’t want to be filmed as there was discussion about schools and opinions. Secondly, it was a useful but somewhat dull session unless you were there (discussing library refurbishment). For...I have just...

Podcasts and Creative commons →. July 27, 2015 · 3:01 pm. Just wanted to say that I’ve had a great day courtesy of a social media contact I made several years ago through an intuitive eating forum Beyond chocolate. Anyway, my little girl (7) loves dinosaurs and wants to be a palaeontologist and my friend J is a geologist with contacts at the Natural History museum. Through the power of Facebook we met her palaeontologist friend and went to his office and found out more about the profession. Middot; Musin...

About | Unchained school librarian

https://unchainedschoollibrarian.wordpress.com/about

I’m a new school librarian in a public school known locally as “Hogwarts.” It has an actual chained library but no esoteric magic books, necronomicon or similar (I’ve checked). I love my new job (started Jan 2015) which comes complete with an office in a turret with a mysterious turret room window above. The views on this website are entirely my own but very happy to hear what other people’s views are too, so please comment and chat back😉. One response to “. August 27, 2015 at 7:20 am. Thing 4 using Google. Google hangout →. July 20, 2015 · 8:01 am. Thing 5 online networks. Today’s thing is using twitter and Facebook. I’ve got this mostly covered. I already chat in the rudai and Chartership group on fb and that’ll do me for now, joining things I really think will be helpful. I would like to become more assertive at having an online opinion as I’m a bit inclined to go with the flow and be convinced by others. I had 4 followers for a few minutes and then they left me! Thing 4 using Google.

23 Librarians Ireland/NI and Beyond…. About 23 Librarians Ireland and Beyond…. How did you first get into the information and library profession? What qualifications did you take? I was very lucky in that we lived not far from the Library School in Stuttgart. Germany. So I applied for a place there and did the three-year degree in Library and Information Studies. A number of years later I got into the Master’s programme in UCD. Are you currently pursuing a professional qualification? Currently I am a so-...

Librarian in the making. April 7, 2016. April 7, 2016. Today I finally submitted my chartership portfolio, what a feeling! It’s taken me ten months from finding a mentor to submitting and I’m pretty happy with that. I’ve really enjoyed the process, it’s inspired me to make a real commitment to continuous professional development, and to create time for meaningful reflection on what I do. I’m already looking forward to my next CPD opportunity, taking part in Rudai23. April 13, 2016 at 1:19 pm. Back on the...

Librarian in the making. A morning in Perth. November 6, 2015. November 2, 2015. The most important part of the session for me was finding out what the assessors are looking for in terms of types of evidence, number of items and portfolio style. It’s important to remember that the assessors give up their free time to examine our Chartership portfolios, so the content should be clear, concise and interesting!
