Playing and learning from home. Reggio Emilia Inspired Provocations. Oak Eggar Moth Study. Little Bear loves bugs, beasties and all sorts of creepy crawlies. Much of his time has been spent capturing specimens to draw, discuss and release, and he enjoys taking care of the creatures he finds. One of the most anticipated events of our year is the arrival of Painted Lady caterpillars from Insectlore. Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to get a good picture as it was so tucked away and I didn’t want ...That even...

A week in the Bear House – Day 1 – Tuesday | Bear and Ted

https://bearandted.wordpress.com/2015/11/18/a-week-in-the-bear-house-day-1

Playing and learning from home. Reggio Emilia Inspired Provocations. A week in the Bear House – Day 1 – Tuesday. A lovely blogger I follow is writing a detailed account of a week in her Home Educating week. It is such a good idea, I had to copy it! With her permission, of course! Here is a link. To what she and her Sausages are up to. Reading a ‘warts and all’ account of life as an unschooling family is so interesting and useful to those just embarking on it, and so I am adding ours. And here is ours!

https://dinkyandme.wordpress.com/2015/07/16/itv-girls-with-autism-the-school-didnt-quite-understand-pda

I am mum to Dinky who is awesome- she also has been diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorder-PDA, ADHD and Sensory integration difficulties. Fabulous P.D.A Booklet! PDA (pathological demand avoidance)… what is that exactly? Celebration evening at school! The summer holidays approach… →. ITV ‘Girls with Autism’- the school didn’t quite understand PDA. It is also important to point out that I am looking at this through the eyes of a mum with a 7 year old, not a teen- who knows how dinky will develop.

Life Long Learning | Bear and Ted

https://bearandted.wordpress.com/life-long-learning

Playing and learning from home. Reggio Emilia Inspired Provocations. It is the end of the school term. All over the UK school children will go home for a long summer break today, some have already begun. But for us, and many other home educating families, day to day life will hardly change at all. Still, I find myself reflecting back on the ‘school’ year we have had. So many changes have taken place, mostly in my head! That is what I feel I have taken from our first year ‘officially’ home edu...It’...

Understanding Children

How can we help? Children learn what they live. What if, as a child, you learn that people will hurt you and let you down? The best thing to do would then be to protect yourself, which might mean getting your retaliation in first, or never letting anyone get close. Next time extreme behaviour happens, think - what are they making me feel? And take that as a communication about their early experience. The science of relating. It has become increasingly clear over the past two decades of research that a ch...
