Alba Sobre Tabla 2014. 6 November, 2016. 6 November, 2016. When looking around for a bottle to open tonight I read this fantastic interview. In Spanish) by the always excellent Spanish Wine Lover. Of Fernando Angulo, the guy behind Alba Viticultores. I love the salinity of it and the flavours on top, a little acidity and ripe apples – a really nice acidic cider – with a tingling, saline and mineral finish. The last time I had it it was my wine of a big day. Cotes du Jura Domaine Labette, Cuvee du Hasard.

On the other hand, the dinner table is not short of pretenders – the entire world of wine, not to put too fine a point on it – and one does wonder whether this is the right battle in strategic terms. Tesco Barbadillo Nutty Amontillado. 11 August, 2015. 13 August, 2015. So here we go – bought this for six quid in a supermarket but then again, Barbadillo have put their name to it. Attractive enough in colour, maybe not absolutely bright/crystal clear. On the nose it is toasted nuts and a little sweet and heavy – more like a liqueur than some amontillados. Next up a wine from a natural wine maker - yes I know - but you have to challenge yourself sometimes.:-). 2013 Brouilly V.V., Jean-Claude Lapalu. From a fresh opened bottle it starts of with a funky, chicken yard nose that within minutes transforms into a much more friendly nose with notes of cranberries, herbs, paint, pine resin and a hint of saw dust.
