Salsa rusa: enero 2015
http://salsarusa.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Society and Culture – waka waka waka

Category Archives: Society and Culture. August 2, 2016 – 5:17 am. We’re still in Vienna; heading back to the States on Saturday. What a calm and orderly place this is! It may be otherwise in corners of the city we haven’t visited, but so far as I can tell Vienna, and the other little Austrian towns we’ve been to, are everything you’d imagine: polite, law-abiding, efficient, […]. Thinking Out Aloud: Death of the Author
http://lorenzo-thinkingoutaloud.blogspot.com/2009/03/death-of-author.html
Postings on books (mainly non-fiction), a few films and matters of interest by Lorenzo from Oz (aka Downunder). Tuesday, March 3, 2009. Death of the Author. I finally got around to reading Roland Barthes’ essay Death of the Author. Why do I do this to myself? The essay is short and I should be doing something else …? Well, yes. But why do I bother with yet another fashionable modern French theorist, I’ve never found it a rewarding experience. And I didn’t this time either. The author is a modern figure, ...

Thoughtcrime – waka waka waka

It’s A Hell Of A Town. December 1, 2009 – 1:00 pm. It appears that our friend Dennis Mangan has run afoul of Google’s guidelines for acceptable content: as of late afternoon yesterday his blog’s homepage. Has been replaced by the dreaded Blogger Screen of Death. This happened also to Jeffery Hodges. I can tell you from personal experience that for a dedicated blogger, having one’s website go down is. You own your content. And for now at least, you cannot be silenced. Blogspot is a free service, and a...

The Elusive Wapiti: Closing Time
http://elusivewapiti.blogspot.com/2014/11/closing-time.html
Wednesday, November 12, 2014. Readers, it is time to shutter this blog. Nothing's going on, merely a decision to re-allocate my finite time more toward that which matters more- my family. I wish everyone who made a habit of reading my humble articles all the best, and I'll keep the links bar at left up a few weeks so that those who use this site as an aggregator may make alternate arrangements. May your skies always be blue, your weather fair, and may the Lord our God bless you and yours. Any excuse to i...

Exploding Galaxies and other Catastrophysics: November 2013
http://superwinds.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Friday, November 29, 2013. Comet ISON appears to have broken up and evaporated as it approached the Sun, so we won't be seeing a spectacular show in our December skies as hoped. It seems unlikely that any remnants that do make it back out towards Earth's orbit will be much to look at. The embedded YouTUBE video of pretty low quality, but NASA's website has high quality video versions of Comet ISON fizzling. Available for viewing and downloading here. Posted by Dave Strickland. Exploding Galaxies and other Catastrophysics: April 2012
http://superwinds.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, April 19, 2012. Athena is dead and with it "big" X-ray astronomy dies finally. Well, so much for hoping that there might be another big X-ray observatory launched next two decades (where big is billion euros or billion dollars). Athena, the de-scoped IXO. Didn't get picked by ESA. See Dynamics of Cats for a discussion and link to the official report. When you don't have politicians to pork barrel you back into life. Posted by Dave Strickland.
