Jake’s Memorial | The Broken Colon
https://brokencolon.wordpress.com/2012/01/27/jakes-friends-memorial
What it’s Like to have a Colostomy. January 27, 2012. On a brighter note, my colleague in attendance said to me that he thought what I said was very well said and important. Perhaps he was listening. I hope so. The closest one gets to “chronic disease” identification is a note at the end of the obituary that in lieu of flowers, a donation could be made to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation. But then, I’ll probably never know. Jake’s Memorial" (4). January 27, 2012 at 10:48 am. March 23, 2012 at 12:10 pm.

Good Things | The Broken Colon
https://brokencolon.wordpress.com/what-its-like-to-have-a-colostomy/good-things
What it’s Like to have a Colostomy. There’s a page on here about things that are hurtful, there’s one about humorous things, and there’s one about annoying things. There are good things, too. Here are some good things:. I no longer have diverticulitis over and over again. I feel very, very good almost all the time. I have quit smoking (except for those weak moments when I fall off the wagon). There are good things that some people have said:. Other very good things:. My brothers and sisters are amazing.

A letter to my friend | The Broken Colon
https://brokencolon.wordpress.com/2012/01/13/a-letter-to-my-friend
What it’s Like to have a Colostomy. A letter to my friend. January 13, 2012. Part I on January 12, 2012. This post is a bit different from most of those here. There’s a sense in which it is related to the general topic of the colostomy, but it has a scope more broad than that while encompassing it. It is a post that I will probably have to edit over time because its contents are, in a way, more personal than even this weird contraption that is stuck to my body. To my friend,. Those conversations made lon...

Reversal? | The Broken Colon
https://brokencolon.wordpress.com/surgeries-hospital/reversal
What it’s Like to have a Colostomy. I just can’t decide about a reversal of my colostomy. The surgeon says that the surgery for reversal will be just as serious as the second one I had in December — the same incision, the same type of surgery to remove sections of colon, PLUS the closure of the stoma site. It is hard to imagine going through all that again. Later, I’ll add to this page about the reasons for hesitating with reversal surgery. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.

Remembering Jake | The Broken Colon
https://brokencolon.wordpress.com/2012/01/26/remembering-jake
What it’s Like to have a Colostomy. January 26, 2012. One of my current students wrote an article in the Personalist blog about Jake, my former student who died last week. It is beautifully written, a celebration of a friendship, and an admonition to those who forget that they should say what needs to be said before it is too late. Jake had a digestive disease. He was so young – only 26. See http:/ www.thepersonalistproject.org/comments/a grief observed. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.

Surgeries & Hospital | The Broken Colon
https://brokencolon.wordpress.com/surgeries-hospital
What it’s Like to have a Colostomy. I went in for surgery in early December of 2008 expecting what I was told by a gastroenterologist and the surgeon — that my sigmoid colon would be removed, my colon would be reattached, the hospital stay would be about 7 days, and then other than having to take it easy for several weeks, my body’s “waste processing facilities” would work as they should. To be continued…. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Address never made public). Get every new post...

Humorous Things | The Broken Colon
https://brokencolon.wordpress.com/what-its-like-to-have-a-colostomy/humorous-things
What it’s Like to have a Colostomy. There’s probably not a lot that is funny about a colostomy, but occasionally there’s something to laugh about. For example:. My stoma occasionally blows bubbles in the shower. One time, one of them flew right out the top of the shower door. There was a time, not too long ago, when I would have completely “freaked out” over these things. Now, they are just part of the day. And it surely beats being sick. I’d like to thank my surgeon for putting me back together wi...

Do Something! | The Broken Colon

What it’s Like to have a Colostomy. January 25, 2012. I think it’s about time that there was a nation-wide campaign that is widely advertised and well-known. This is my small contribution.
