USA VS. Ghana - Precarious Ideas

USA VS. Ghana. The US opening match was one of the most thrilling soccer games so far in the World Cup. Whenever we suit up against Ghana - we know we're in for a exciting game and this match lived up to that. So what can we take away from the first 90 minutes of competition? The question I have for this team is - can we play better with the lead? We've proved we can play aggressive, attacking soccer, but what about after we score? Ideas throughout my travels and business experiences.

On the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation, we get the 'fiscal cliff' compromise. Lets say that again. 150 years ago, we freed a race from slavery. A fight that cost both sides over a half a million deaths. But Congress was able to come together and pass that bill. Can words even put that into context? Have we really progressed as a government? I thought this was worth sharing. Great speech/opener. It’s not the greatest country in the world professor, that’s my answer. Canada has freedom&#...

More Effort, More rewards. Why is finding your passion so difficult? Find things like you like to do, and give everything to them. Focus, determination, time. A lot of great people over history have simply used hard work to become experts in what they do. And then they move on, find other passions, become experts in other fields/hobbies. So to reassess my life, what am I passionate about lately - and am I giving it my all? My answer has always been, then I'll have all this beer I don't' want to drink!

Life Goal - Precarious Ideas

On my old mac I used to have a bucket list of sorts, of all the things I wanted to do before I died. While I feel that is extremely important in defining my future plans, I think there is another component that is somewhat related to that: my life goals. How does this differ from my bucket list? Its what I want to accomplish, not what I want to do. Sometimes they are the same thing, but not this most recent goal of mine. Draft up a plan. Tally up the cost. Visit some Central American cities.

Lets talking about investing. I think that if I started investing 100$ a month to each of my kids retirement accounts the day they were born until I died, they would be able to comfortably retire at age 60, without contributing a dime to their account. Can you imagine that? My math is a bit fuzzy, and I really want to set up an excel model to test this out, but I'm pretty sure its true. Some of you may be asking, well, how can this possibly work? Wouldn't that make college nearly obsolete? For valuing mo...

Ferguson Missouri - Precarious Ideas
http://www.derekwilhelm.com/blog/ferguson-missouri
For the last few days I have avoided any news regarding the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson Missouri. I did not want to believe the headlines that I saw - I did not want to believe that those very headlines were coming from the community that I grew up in. My mind and pride wanted to deny it. Have we progressed to the society the great Martin Luther King Jr. dreamt about? In the light of recent events - I think we can do better. I think Mr. King expected more from us. Every new feeling is culmination of all the feelings you've ever experienced. Each thought, moment of sadness or happiness, is tangentially related to everything that came before it. Rarely are moments so full of newness that they cannot be traced to a definitive path you took long before it came to existence. Does this explain why we are stubborn beings? Why can't we be cautious with our actions and free spirits with our feelings and thoughts and beliefs! Written September 10th, 2013. Edited today.
