Vermilion Co. Conservation District Foundation. Herb gardening at the V.C.C.D. has been taking place since the early 1980s. The living history programming utilizes herbs in teaching. How early pioneers used the plants in cooking or medicinal purposes. Herb gardens were maintained at Kennekuk County Park and also at the Pioneer Homestead at Forest Glen Preserve. In 2012, the herb garden was again renovated. The railroad ties were removed and replaced with stone.

Vermilion Co. Conservation District Foundation. The Michael G. Reddy Arboretum was established in 1977. Mike Reddy was a quadriplegic and worked as a naturalist on the V.C.C.D. staff. He used the arboretum extensively until his death in 1991. This is one of the very few arboretums in which leaf collecting for students is encouraged. An arboretum guide may be purchased for $3.00. The Vermilion County Conservation District conducts the most extensive forestry research projects of any conservation and forest preserve district in Illinois. College interns utilize the Tree Research Area at Forest Glen Preserve as an outdoor laboratory. The TRA celebrates its 38th.
