Keith's April Road Trip Blog. Chilling at the Awahnee. To find a partner for Thursday I signed up on the message board in camp and I met up with Ted, an engineer working for the park this summer. We climbed Nutcracker (5.8, but we did the 5.9 start variation) and After Six (5.7). Ted climbs very fast and is comfortable on the granite. We climbed 12 pitches in about 6 hours! Funny someone would be intrigued by WI plates. Hope you're having a cool one by the warm fire. We miss you and Eve already.

Our routes had a pretty significant approach for Joshua Tree, as you actually had to scramble for 30 minutes over boulders before you get to the climbs. Typically not a bad approach, but Eve has been feeling sick the last few days, and I should have picked one of the many routes that starts 15 feet from the car. Looking for a route. Keith's April Road Trip Blog. Joshua Tree Day 2. After a relaxing evening at our beautiful JTree campground, David and Tandi have to head back to San Diego in the morning. So Keith and I are on our own for the day, and we decide to take on a two pitch route we scoped out from our campsite. It was about a two minute approach from our tent! Overhang bypass (5.7) goes up the right side of this rock formation to the top. Me squinting in the sun, about to hit the shady part of the climb! Half dome after rain.
