Why grow in a city? Can city growing make a difference? Eight crops that are easy to grow, hard to buy. When you’re growing in a small space, you want everything you grow to be special in some way. It might be beautiful, delicious, attractive to wildlife, or highly productive (ideally several of these! The range and choice available to the home grower is huge and rapidly growing. How to make a bee home that really works

http://www.verticalveg.org.uk/how-to-make-a-bee-hotel-that-really-works

Why grow in a city? Can city growing make a difference? How to make a bee home that really works. If you’ve only got a tiny growing space in the city, is there anything you can do to help bees? The answer is yes! I met up with Kate Bradbury, BBC wildlife expert and author of the The Wildlife Gardener. To find out what you can do for bees in a small urban space like a balcony, a few window sills or a small patch of concrete. Create a solitary bee home. Choose the right flowers for bees. Why grow in a city? Can city growing make a difference? Ten great crops to grow in containers. When growing in small spaces, you want a lot from the crops you grow. You want them to give you plenty to eat, to taste amazing, and ideally to look great, too. After experimenting with over fifty different vegetable crops, here are ten I’ve found to be amongst the very best. (Herbs and fruits to follow another day). Nasturtiums will brighten any home. A super productive and pretty crop – as long as you h...

A Caversham Garden: The garlic harvest is in

http://cavershamgarden.blogspot.com/2015/07/the-garlic-harvest-is-in.html

Growing food in a town garden. Sunday, 5 July 2015. The garlic harvest is in. All of the garlic in the garden has now been harvested. It was done in two batches: garlic in the main part of the garden was gathered in a couple of weeks ago and those in the veg bags, which were a different variety and matured slightly later, were picked a few days ago. There are plenty of videos on YouTube showing how to braid garlic. The ones I found most useful were:. 6 July 2015 at 09:43. Five a Day Market Garden. Permac...

NOT A DOGGY LOO Trying to grow our own Fruit and Vegetables in our garden. Sunday, 24 November 2013. So pleased I joined. I joined UK Veg Gardeners a while ago. My Dad was a Naval Man and he called the November Garden tidy up " buttoning down the hatches ". So here I go to do a bit more while it is still light. Now we hav...

purple veg: July 2014

http://purplevegetables.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 30 July 2014. I sowed these about April. Now, thanks to the pond that I'm digging and a bit of compost from the shop (for the top) I finally filled in these big boxes so I can plant out the leeks. They were ready to move on, you can see the pots were filling up with roots:. Posted by Purple Veg. Saturday, 26 July 2014. Visiting butterflies on the budleia. purple veg: Pond

http://purplevegetables.blogspot.com/2015/01/pond.html

Saturday, 17 January 2015. We woke up this morning to a little bit of snowfall, and I like the way it's falling on the frozen pond surface:. Making it took a few weeks of digging last summer. I started by marking out the shape, it doesn't show in the photo but the ground slopes down quite a bit so it took a while to find a curve that fitted:. It's about half a metre at the deepest point. At the downhill end I dug a separate pit for a bog garden, so that when the water overflows it falls into the bog:.

Vild med have: marts 2015

http://vildmedhave.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

31 mar. 2015.
