Vicarious Travelblog

A record of travels around the world. Monday, May 14, 2012. Lions and tigers and. Scratch tigers, how about cheetahs instead? Apparently one of the "big five" is leopards, but we never saw a one. I don't think we feel bad about it given how much else we saw! This is the best shot I got. I think the cheetah got up once and others may have gotten better shots. They were pretty well focused on eating whatever animal it was that they had caught. Having a sip of water from the mud puddle. I'm wet, wet, wet!

Vicarious Travelblog: June 2007

http://www.vicarioustravelblog.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html

A record of travels around the world. Saturday, June 30, 2007. Amigos de la biblioteca (Friends of the library). No ladies and gentlemen, I´m not talking about the kind men and women who set up shop at libraries and sell used books and other things. I´m talking about ratones - rats. We´ve found a total of 4 or 5 books that have been eaten straight through by some sort of mysterious bug that I have yet to see. The librarians are being good about disposing of these books right away. Friday, June 29, 2007.

Vicarious Travelblog: On the road

http://www.vicarioustravelblog.blogspot.com/2012/05/on-road.html

A record of travels around the world. Monday, May 14, 2012. Oops Where does the time go! There aren't too many pics left, and I want to post them before too much more time goes by. Plus, it's time for me to put the safari aside and do some more processing about the whole point of the trip - which was the conference. Why do I put baboons with "on the road"? Because all the baboons we saw were always on the road! Those were all in Lake Nakuru, and below is a bunch we saw, right next to the road, in the Mara.

Vicarious Travelblog: Glorious hippos

http://www.vicarioustravelblog.blogspot.com/2012/05/glorious-hippos.html

A record of travels around the world. Thursday, May 03, 2012. On our first safari day, at Lake Nakuru, we just barely saw some hippos. I think it was their ears, eyes, and noses sticking out of the water. Our guides took us to Lake Naivasha the next day, ostensibly to see flamingos (since there weren't any at Nakuru), but I was much more pleased to see the hippos. This herd, bunch of blobs, was surrounded by all sorts of birds, on the shore and in the water. Jessica (your sister) said.

Vicarious Travelblog: Ruminants, and other four-legged creatures

http://www.vicarioustravelblog.blogspot.com/2012/05/ruminants-and-other-four-legged.html

A record of travels around the world. Thursday, May 03, 2012. Ruminants, and other four-legged creatures. One of the larger ruminants (and I think part of the 'Big Five' game animals) is the buffalo. I kept wanting to call it a water buffalo, but our guide assured us those lived in SE Asia. This may be a cape buffalo, or just a buffalo. Mungweru (our guide) said these are the most dangerous animal around because they are the only ones that kill for fun. Kill. For fun, that is. Yikes! This one is hiding h...

Monday, July 11, 2005. Aimee's why I'm blogging. Other people's reasons for blogging amuse me. My reason? Aimee is making me. Ever since we shared an apartment my Senior year, Aimee has controlled my life. She made me share my food with her in '99 and she forced me to come back and walk in graduation with her in '01. Then Aimee coerced me into visiting her in the big city, flying to majestic Alaska and taking a train down the green Pacific coast. And now, were off to England. Bummer, huh? Feb 19: Dear Da...

http://joycewhite.blogspot.com/2006_11_01_archive.html

Saturday, November 11, 2006. Two of my friends have experienced the same thing:. Neither did anything to deserve it and neither chose it. One friend was kicked out of his home because someone thought he should get a job and a real house. The american dream. Another friend's husband was abusive but she had no where to go. Well-meaning friends offered both "two weeks" at my place. I don't know how long my life is going to be out of control. Limitted generosity during unlimitted chaos. No formula, eh? You'r...

I hit the "Cancel" button while composing a yahoo message and this warning popped up. Sometimes I want to stop communicating. It takes a lot of effort to try to express what I mean, and even more to try to figure it out. It takes patience, and reminding myself to hope. But if I stop, I risk losing, I assure others wil also lose what I might offer. Trying to love, trying to live.

Saturday, September 24, 2005. I remembered that I am tall. Every Friday at work, we are suposed to wear jeans. So I went looking for some at Savers thrift store. As I was trying on a light blue pair of jeans, the women next to me commented that she wished her daughter would wear something besides designer jeans. Designer jeans. Hmmmmm. I had never spent time looking for designer jeans. I've been content with just finding pants that fit. Posted by Joyce White at 8:01 PM. I am a teacher and learner.

The term psych-ache refers to unbearable mental pain that is caused by the frusteration of a person's most important needs, which are unique to each individual. By fulfilling these needs, we find meaning and happiness in life. Suicide has been called "a very bad decision on a very bad day.". And, a letter from a survivor:. Vicario...

Fashions in Brazil — at least the southernmost state, where I was — are almost aggressively casual. At a big conference, before an audience of thousands, speakers wear jeans and t-shirts.
