Local Pacific Northwest racing pictures from the past. 1987 SCCA Wild West Pro Rally. The 1987 Wild West PRO Rally was held near Olympia, WA in early November. Here are a few pictures I took at the event with my trusty Olympus OM-2S. This picture was taken at the Thurston County ORV park prior to the first stage. The first stage was held in the stadium section and access roads of the ORV park prior to the crews heading out into the Capitol Forest. Next was John Buffum in the Quattro. The Honda CRX again.

This one took place on the Saturday, just as it was getting dark. Probably about 4pm at that time of year. The week before there had been heavy rains in the area causing some erosion. Local Pacific Northwest racing pictures from the past. 1986 Olympus Rally Revisited: The last daytime stage. This was the last daylight stage we went to on the Sunday of the rally. As you can see, I think it was the best attended of all the stages. I’ve seen some pro photos of this stage as well. We were able to get into the depressed area at the apex of the corner for some good close-up shots. They probably wouldn’t allow spectators without press credentials to do this today. Local Pacific Northwest racing pictures from the past. I just read that the first WRC World Champion, Bjorn Waldegaard, passed away from cancer. I was lucky enough to see him compete at the 1986 and 1987 Olympus Rally. That is him putting on his jacket at scrutineering for the 1986 Olympus Rally. I’ve heard there is a story about him, recce for the ’86 Olympus, loosing a recce car in a flooded river, public nudity and the Washington State Patrol. Maybe someone can share the specifics? Friday, November 21, 2014. Gianni's cars part 12: 1991 Mazda Miata. Thursday, November 20, 2014. Update: Where is White Rabbit now? A couple months ago I sold my 1984 Rabbit GTI. On Bring a Trailer. I would recommend using them if you have an interesting classic for sale. The fees were reasonable as compared to EvilBay and you can avoid the fun of selling via Criagslist. It was also good in that I knew the car was going to go to a good home where it's originality would be preserved.

Tuesday, February 24, 2015. Tuesday, February 17, 2015. OT: Tales of the nitrile glove - MINI motor mount. The passenger motor mount on the MINI decided to puke out its oil a while back. I had been keeping an eye on it - watching for signs that the inner rubber was collapsing. I hadn't seen any evidence, but with the car 500 miles away from 100K, I decided not to tempt fate any longer and ordered a new mount from Pelican Parts. Assembly was the reverse of dis-assembly as they say. Sunday, February 8, 2015.

Sunday, May 31, 2015. OT: The streets of Tombstone. The hazard/headlight switch was starting to fall into the dash of our 1991 Miata. I'm not sure, but I think someone was re-enacting the old "Headlights go up, Headlights go down" routine from the Regular Car Reviews Miata review. Not having any pop bottles around, I used some sparkling water that my wife drinks. To make the removal tool, I sliced the top off the bottle where it transitions into a cylinder and then sliced that in half to end up with this:.

Local Pacific Northwest racing pictures from the past. VNWM visited the Olympus Rally this weekend. It’s my first rally since the 1989 Pacific Forest SCCA PRO Rally. I have some video of that rally on VHS that I shot with my brothers huge VHS Camera that I need to transfer and post to the blog, but that’s another project for another day. I didn’t bother to bring my camera. I did shoot a couple of crappy iPhone videos, mainly of the backs of other spectators heads. Posted in Olympus Rally. May 17, 2015.
