VWB/VSF Student Project: Uganda

VWB/VSF Student Project: Uganda. Saturday, June 5, 2010. May 31, 2010. Here we are, two weeks into our project in Uganda, and clearly procrastination has got the better of us :P Not for lack of experiences to relate, but perhaps an overwhelming sense of not knowing where to begin, has delayed this first blog. Regardless, welcome to the 2010 VWB Uganda student project blog. We arrived and are safe. We are still learning about local farming practices and what we have to offer the farmers over the course of...

Muzungu: September 2010

http://goatvet.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

NEW Tales from the African Goat Vet. Thursday, September 30, 2010. Anyway, my mom, dad and I decided that when I got here one of the things I would do would be to get her help and find out just what was wrong with her. We chatted a bit about her health while she cowered in the corner away from the Muzungu who Innocent is telling is her “Unco”. It was decided that I would search out the best place in town for her to be seen and I would pick them up on Wednesday morning. What can I do? How risky is surgery?

Muzungu: A snapshot of my day...

http://goatvet.blogspot.com/2010/10/snapshot-of-my-day.html

NEW Tales from the African Goat Vet. Sunday, October 3, 2010. A snapshot of my day. A typical Ugandan road which they race up and down. Once I reach a village I travel around visiting different beneficiaries (orphans or widows who are benefitting from our project) and perform some health checks on their animals and give any required treatments. Checking in on a beneficiary and her pig. Vaccinating and tagging a goat. A "Mukade" making a grass mat similar to the one she is sitting on. Kent the Goat Vet.

Muzungu: February 2008

http://goatvet.blogspot.com/2008_02_01_archive.html

NEW Tales from the African Goat Vet. Friday, February 29, 2008. Well I have been here for one month as of yesterday! I know they say that "Time Flies" but until "Time has Flown" you don't realise that "Time Flies"! He told me that his Uncle is a cattle farmer and that he loves spending time there and has always been into science (which I already knew). Charles and I.as hard as I try I can rarely get Ugandans to smile in pictures. Links to this post. Tuesday, February 26, 2008. They get down on their knee...

Muzungu: March 2008

http://goatvet.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html

NEW Tales from the African Goat Vet. Monday, March 31, 2008. Africa is no different than other place in some respects. I find that for whatever reason there are just some people you are drawn to more than others. I don’t know why but some kids I meet I immediately connect to. Maybe it’s the ones who are just the right amount of shy but warm up when you talk to them? Maybe it is the ones who flash me the biggest smile? Maybe it’s the ones who are in the greatest need? 8221; as I drive by? They have been t...

NEW Tales from the African Goat Vet. Tuesday, April 29, 2008. Which means "Is it far? The rooster is yet to be named but the goat is affectionately named after me…Kenty (it’s how they say my name in local language). In the end I left the goat at their farm (much to their disappointment, but really…what am I going to do with a goat? The rooster has taken up residence with my three other chickens (one rooster and two hens) and has caused quite a raucous in the hen house. Links to this post. We didn't waste...

http://goatvet.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

NEW Tales from the African Goat Vet. Tuesday, October 12, 2010. For those of reading who have been here and met some of these people, I thought you might like an update on some of our (or at least my) favourite women. Overall most are doing really well, of course some have still refused to build pens, deworm, or zero graze but those who were excelling continue to excel. She told me she wanted you all to know that she is tired, and was trying to look it here. Posing with a cabbage and her new Canada visor.

http://goatvet.blogspot.com/2010/10/kids-again.html

NEW Tales from the African Goat Vet. Friday, October 8, 2010. Kids continue to make my life here such a joy. If they aren’t terrified of you they absolutely adore you. As always some seem to weasel their way into my hearts a little more than others. So I present you with this edition of "Kids". He screamed bloody murder for a good 5 minutes. Apparently they’re fun to play with but a little too scary to put on a foot! Davis taking tea and stealing some of my Mandazzi. 8221;, “This is a what? I stumbled ac...

Muzungu: KENTINA!!

http://goatvet.blogspot.com/2010/10/kentina.html

NEW Tales from the African Goat Vet. Monday, October 4, 2010. So if you don’t recall, last time I was here there was a baby who was born to Laubin and Susan. When they introduced her to me they asked me what the female form of Kent was….without really thinking I said “Kentina? 8221; He laughs and points to one of two children who are crying off to the side, terrified of the Munzungu. Ha ha ha! I taught her how to stick out her tongue.I'm such a good influence! Kentina is a lovely name. Kent the Goat Vet.

NEW Tales from the African Goat Vet. Wednesday, July 2, 2008. It's Not Easy to say Goodbye. Well I have been meaning to tell you about my departure from Uganda for quite sometime so here I go. After the entertainment it was time for "cake" break. Now I was pretty pumped about the cake and tried to peak at it before we ate it but they batted my hands. away Then they revealed such said cake.now in Canada do we call pumpkin roasted with ground beef on the inside cake too? VWB/VSF Student Project: Malawi. Sunday, July 11, 2010. This Is. Africa. It’s about half-time in our project and though it’s a bit of a strange time for a introduction to Malawi, here one is:. There is a population of about 12 million people on a land area of about 120,000 sq km, 24,000 sq km of which are the beautiful waters of Lake Malawi. This makes Malawi one of the most densely populated African countries. Malawian women are expected to be submissive and often are deprived of rights, even the right ...

Wednesday, May 13, 2009. The Saddle project.the beginnings. It seems that the management changes have been responsible for minimizing the back lesions. The photo on the left is of an old back sore. Wednesday, July 22, 2009. This is our farewell blog entry.
