Tutte le strade conducono a Roma: August 2011
http://urbaninrome.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
Tutte le strade conducono a Roma. All roads lead to Rome. Tuesday, August 2, 2011. This past weekend a few of us went to Tom's family's house in Umbria to spend a few nights out of the city. The tiny town of Giove, where his house is. It's the same place I met his family on Easter. View of the yard from the living room. I love the amount of light the house gets. Olives growing in the yard! We spent the majority of our time eating :). Sunset from one of the balconies (there are three! Links to this post.

Tutte le strade conducono a Roma. All roads lead to Rome. Friday, April 20, 2012. At the beginning of February there were reports of snow showers in Rome. Although I'm told that snow is extremely rare this far south on the peninsula, I've experienced it every winter since I've been here. In February 2010. It snowed lightly the day of our Fulbright mid-year meeting, but we were inside all day and unfortunately missed out on all the excitement. The next winter. That Saturday morning, at about 5:00am, I hea...

Tutte le strade conducono a Roma. All roads lead to Rome. Thursday, July 4, 2013. Although I have many more things to post that I never got around to, I am back in the States, my dissertation is defended, and I have received my PhD. I therefore feel it strange to keep posting of my Italian adventures, as they have come to an end. Here then is my final post. Thank you all for reading! I've been wanting to go for ages, for the art but also for the prosciutto and cheese. It was a winter wonderland! Decadenc...

Tutte le strade conducono a Roma. All roads lead to Rome. Sunday, May 29, 2011. For my birthday, Tom and I spent a weekend at the Amalfi coast. We stayed in the actual town of Amalfi, and on Sunday, as we drove back, visited the towns of Positano and Sorrento. It was beautiful and perfectly relaxing! The town of Amalfi from the beach on our first evening. The greenery you see here are lemon trees. After the beach and some walking around we relaxed and had a drink in front of the 9th-century duomo. Where ...

Tutte le strade conducono a Roma. All roads lead to Rome. Sunday, June 16, 2013. Over the summer the Castel Sant'Angelo was open during the evening on certain days, allowing for visits after dark. I love when monuments are open late because you get to see things in a different light (haha, literally), and with significantly fewer crowds. During normal visits there are guards preventing photographs of Perino del Vaga's frescoes in the Sala Paolina. Not so at night. St Michael in all of his Mannerist glory.

Tutte le strade conducono a Roma. All roads lead to Rome. Saturday, June 1, 2013. And his successor Sixtus V restored some of the damage and opened new waterways that the populace of Rome was once again able to spread out and occupy areas that had been abandoned in the Middle Ages. First glimpse of a still-standing arch. To give you a sense of scale, I'm standing between the middle arch. With Nick, doing a dance of some kind while I take photos. Tutte le strade conducono a Roma. All roads lead to Rome. Friday, March 15, 2013. Beware the Ides of March. Sometimes you are just in the right place at the right time. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. December 3, 2014. After not posting for nearly a month I have decided it was way too much effort setting up the blog in the first place just to leave it here to die. So here I go:. To be honest I feel that the word good is not powerful enough to describe how amazing my time teaching so far has been. But The Unbelievable, the Bad and the Ugly just don’t have the same ring to it; meaning the title to this blog would have been significantly less catchy (god forbid). The P6 cl...

Wandering by the Way. A blog about travel and other journeys too. Saturday, April 16, 2011. If you didn't know Easter was coming. Now you know. People in Astoria take their holiday decorations seriously. Take a look. Mr and Mrs. Easter Bunny and their picket fence. Some trees blossom, some ovulate.
