Suwon – wanderlestblogs

https://wanderlestblogs.wordpress.com/2016/09/10/suwon

September 10, 2016. 8221; He thought I was a Chinese tourist. After seeing Paldalmun, we dragged our bags and saw in one of the corners, the entrance to the Fort. It was going to be a long, uphill climb, with admission costing 1,000 KRW. We just decided to take some nice photos along the wall. (No more energy.). That photo required upper body strength, since I lacked height. As our reward for traveling all the way to Suwon, we had green tea bingsu (9800 krw), a shaved ice Korean desert in Cafe Bene.

Takayama – wanderlestblogs

https://wanderlestblogs.wordpress.com/2016/12/25/takayama

December 25, 2016. December 25, 2016. At the start of December, I decided to bring my brother to his first ever trip to Japan. I chose to land in Nagoya in order to go to Shirakawago and try to catch some snow (hitting two birds with one stone). After one night in Nagoya (subject of a separate blog post), we took the Meitetsu bus to Takayama, a city in the mountainous Hida region of the Gifu prefecture. Takayama is famous for its old town architecture. Ramen on a cold night. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Nami Island – wanderlestblogs

https://wanderlestblogs.wordpress.com/2016/09/10/nami-island

September 10, 2016. September 11, 2016. Nami Island is a tiny half-moon shaped island, located about 90 minutes from Seoul, in the Chuncheon area. We rode an ITX train, then a cab from Gapyeong station to reach the ferry terminal. I have not seen the Koreanovelas, but when I saw the photos of my friend Jasmin Sarmiento (owner of Beauty and Beyond, successful entrepreneur and very inspiring person), I said that I have to go and see the place. True enough, the place did not disappoint. Notify me of new com...

Nagoya – wanderlestblogs

December 25, 2016. December 25, 2016. Nagoya is the gateway to Central Japan, to attractions such as Shirakawago and Takayama. The evening was spent walking around Sakae, and seeing sights such as Oasis 21 and Nagoya Tower. After a restful sleep, we indulged in the sumptuous buffet offered by ANA, which even had a separate section for Nagoya delicacies: tempura and eel. We then explored sights in Nagoya such as Osu Kannon and Nagoya Castle. Two Ninjas and the Daimyo. Merry Christmas from Osu Kannon.

New Zealand: Part 3. August 26, 2016. Frodo Baggins’s Hobbit Home. Landing in Auckland late at night, we took the bus to Crowne Plaza Auckland, where my mother was welcomed with a greeting card and a bottle of wine from the staff. This speaks volumes of their excellent service. Birthday card and a bottle of wine. Inside Auckland Art Gallery. Goofing around with art. Modern Art Guided Tour. Auckland Harbor with Auckland Tower behind me. Auckland Tower and mom. The next day was the most exciting day. W...

Tourist Tips for the Siem Reap Temple Tour – the gray spots of life

https://thegrayspots.wordpress.com/2015/03/19/tourist-tips-for-the-siem-reap-temple-tour

The gray spots of life. The nuances of black or white. Tourist Tips for the Siem Reap Temple Tour. March 19, 2015. March 20, 2015. Wear dri-fit and lightweight clothes. Wear closed walking/trekking shoes. With socks. Backpacks instead of tote bags. Bring as little as you can in your bag. This is self-explanatory. Just bring the basic necessities! You will encounter some peddlers and beggars. Be firm but kind. If you feel like you’re lost, just follow the herd. Fresh coconut juice break! I think I’v...

The gray spots of life. The nuances of black or white. Conquering Cambodia Day 2: The Big Circuit tour. June 10, 2015. June 14, 2015. As of this writing, I am totally confused whether the temple with the lake is part of this tour or the Small Circuit one in the previous entry! Apologies for that inaccuracy. Travel logs or entries should really be written RIGHT AFTER trips so as not to confuse the mind and forget any details. I will note that as a post script when this series is over. On Eating Alone (and...

Love After Love – the gray spots of life

The gray spots of life. The nuances of black or white. July 23, 2015. It’s been a while since I’ve come across poetry that moved me. This one that I just stumbled upon now is a timely reminder for myself in this process of transition, on being my own cheerleader wherever life leads me. Love After Love (Derek Walcott). The time will come. When, with elation,. You will greet yourself arriving. At your own door, in your own mirror,. And each will smile at the other’s welcome,. And say, sit here. Eat. On The...

The gray spots of life. The nuances of black or white. Conquering Cambodia: Night Life Day 1. May 1, 2015. May 1, 2015. After my memorable Small Circuit temple hop, I regained my strength after a shower and a long nap. The Cambodian sun was setting so I willed myself to get up and not waste any time to explore Pub Street and the Night Market. My only agenda though was to find a spa and get a massage! Early bird at Pub Street. A shopping splurge of class A backpacks. Dusk has arrived, and as I left the sp...

The gray spots of life. The nuances of black or white. June 7, 2015. June 7, 2015. Not a bad view for cheap tickets. When their name flashed on the LCD screen, everyone went wild. I couldn’t hear their voices clearly nor decipher what their first song was. The fans’ screams were deafening. Manila just had to show them that it was crazy about PTX! Set list grabbed from Twitter. I can’t wait to see them come back to Manila for another show. I absolutely love these guys. Conquering Cambodia: Night Life Day 1.

The gray spots of life. The nuances of black or white. Author: M. Villanueva. June 3, 2016. June 5, 2016. I was feeling utterly stressed that week (when have I not been? In Cubao, Quezon City. It was just a jeep and train ride from Marikina City, and I need not worry about food because Cubao is overflowing with restaurants. My only concern then was how soon I could settle in my room to work. I couldn’t wait! They gave me a room with a view! Did I get to swim? This is my only complaint about this hotel&#4...

The gray spots of life. The nuances of black or white. Conquering Cambodia: Day 1 (Tomb Raider temple and the rest). March 11, 2015. March 11, 2015. BUT, I had an interesting encounter with some local kids. Good thing I had a few packs of cookies in my bag to give to them. Sand scribbles by a child. My cookies in exchange for a picture. It made me a bit sad that they had to beg tourists for a dollar or for snacks😦 They’re beautiful little humans! I hope he enjoys people watching. My next stop was a surp...

https://thegrayspots.wordpress.com/2015/04/18/connections

The gray spots of life. The nuances of black or white. April 18, 2015. April 18, 2015. I’m a bit nostalgic about the landline that came with the bundle. I remember a huge chunk of my growing up years and my audio marathon conversations until wee hours of the morning with old friends and lovers. In this day and age, I wonder if anyone would still want to engage in that. I think I still want to. Do you? What if I make it a social experiment wherein I give a new guy my landline number instead of my mobile?
