Wargaming with Silver Whistle

Wargaming with Silver Whistle. Thursday, 6 August 2015. WW2 German Autumn Camouflage. I have just finished painting a platoon of Waffen SS in (mostly) Autumn camouflage. It was quite time consuming but I am happy with the end result. Rather than the usual summer camo, I fancied the autumn look and for them to blend in with my autumn trees that I had made for me by Ralph Spencer. A couple of before and after shots, with the army painter figure on the left. The platoon with the varnish and bases finished.

Wargaming with Silver Whistle: May 2014

http://wargamingwithsilverwhistle.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Wargaming with Silver Whistle. Saturday, 31 May 2014. Panzer Grenadier Deluxe - WW2 Rules Review. I have just received my copy of the new 'Panzer Grenadier Deluxe' tactical WW2 rules, written by Dave Brown, author of the excellent Napoleonic rule set General de Brigade. Dave contacted me and asked if he could use some of my WW2 images that I had put on the blog for his new rule book and of course I was more than happy to oblige. The rules are designed for use with 15mm or 20mm figures, but can also be us...

Wargaming with Silver Whistle. Sunday, 31 May 2015. Williamite Wars and WW2 WIP. Close up of the command. I have given a couple of the figures torn/ripped clothing on their knees and elbows but not done too many as these as supposed to be a guards unit which I imagine would have been the best dressed in the army. Here are a couple of trees that he has already made for me. I thought I would use mine as a lend lease with my WW2 Russian collection and so chopped up a couple of Warlord Miniatures plastic Rus...

Wargaming with Silver Whistle: November 2014

http://wargamingwithsilverwhistle.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Wargaming with Silver Whistle. Monday, 24 November 2014. HELICOPTER STANDS (New-Ray Die-cast 28mm). With Richard Clarke of 'Too Fat Lardies' fame, working on an adaption of his WW2 Chain of Command rules for the 'Modern Afghanistan' conflict, I have been inspired to work on some more of my collection for this period. Hopefully the terrain and buildings will also be suitable for my North West Frontier and Sudan collections and I have the Perry WW2 Desert War stuff in the pipeline which I can use this for.

Wargaming with Silver Whistle: AN ARMOURED ENGAGEMENT - Chain of Command.

http://wargamingwithsilverwhistle.blogspot.com/2015/07/an-armoured-engagement-chain-of-command.html

Wargaming with Silver Whistle. Sunday, 26 July 2015. AN ARMOURED ENGAGEMENT - Chain of Command. I really like the vehicle rules with Chain of Command so I thought it would be fun to try out a game using lots of armour. One of my gaming friends said I would probably need a huge table for this to work in 28mm. I don't think this is the case if you set your table up with lots of terrain to block the line of sight. I have worked out the platoons by using the cost from the support lists for a balanced game.

Bullets,Bandages & Lard: Action Station!

http://bulletsbandagesandlard.blogspot.com/2015/06/action-station.html

Bullets,Bandages and Lard. Wednesday, 17 June 2015. Having started the latest pint-sized Chain of Command campaign "Old Hickory" against new oppo Ian (this time I get to play as Germans), I saw in one of the scenarios there is a train station. I've already got a lot of Normandy buildings for 15mm but don't have a station so I set out to add one to the collection. The kit arrived next morning from Wales and I set about putting it together. Next came a heavy drybrush of the walls. The windows with the ...

http://bulletsbandagesandlard.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Bullets,Bandages and Lard. Monday, 4 May 2015. Jonny and the Diggers (part 2). View from the Anzac approach. There's about a 20"(50cm) rise from the near edge to the top of the slope. I already had a plan in mind of how I wanted the table to look. 6' x 6'. A long sloping rise, based on two foot square tiles with a cloth overlay. Gallipoli is surprisingly much more verdant than would first be assumed with plenty of vegetation (cotton bushes, long grasses and even pine trees! I'll be trying to make the dry...

Bullets,Bandages & Lard: October 2014

http://bulletsbandagesandlard.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Bullets,Bandages and Lard. Thursday, 16 October 2014. It's NOT all WW2 and not even all Lard (that's a technicality - more of which later). Savage and godless. Heading to a settlement near you soon? I was unsure at first on painting war paint. In the end I just dived in and was pleasantly surprised I didn't ruin the test batch of figures. I'd acquired some autumn leaves too. Here among the undergwothe". Using Foundry's triads and Citadel reds and yellows for their vividness, I managed to paint all 20 of ...

Bullets,Bandages & Lard: July 2014

http://bulletsbandagesandlard.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

Bullets,Bandages and Lard. Monday, 21 July 2014. As I said last week's game may have been short on support points but it did give me the incentive to finish up a couple of loose end projects. The minefields and wire were in the last post but it also pushed me to finish my first platoon of panzergrenadiers along with enough extras to fill quite a few of their support options too. A full Panzergrenadier Platoon. Three sections plus command. Forward Observer and radio- again for either system. And finally s...

Bullets,Bandages and Lard. Monday, 30 March 2015. 2015 Sooo Many Anniversaries! Pleased with how it turned out, I hatched a plan to add two more. The model is a 15mm Lil' Flying Fokker available from http:/ www.oldgloryuk.com/wwii-allies/44/157/412/420. With decals from I-94 which I picked up from here http:/ www.minibits.net/BR-122-p672/. But have since found out are also available at Old Glory. However. (I'll try to keep this short). After a few highlights and some tufts I thought they were "keepers".

Hart of War Figure Painting and Basing Service. Tuesday, August 25, 2015. WEBSITE GOES LIVE 1ST SEPTEMBER. I was wildly over optimistic at thinking the Hart of War website would be ready by mid August lol. There is a lot of work involved in getting things ready! Domenica 19 maggio 2013.
