With the exception of Nolan's Batman series, I find most comic book films to be bland, samey, tedious, or uninspired. I wasn't terribly impressed with Avengers and never even saw any of the "origin" films or Age of Ultron. I did. So even if those risks aren't taken, the film never feels like a foregone conclusion. This is the first time Elizabeth Banks has directed a film and it shows, mainly through lack of restraint. Several scenes go on too long, some storylines feel needlessly drawn out, and, though it pains me to say, there was too much singing. And avoid voices for a while. Mad Max: Fury Road. The thought of sex, a fitting theme woven throughout the film. 5 Stars - The perfect blend of visual storytelling, well-rounded characters, a tight and well-oiled narrative, and a sense that the film speaks to larger philosophies like virtue or the human condition.
