Judy O'Leary, Ceramic Artist. I use both wheel throwing and hand building to produce high-fired ceramic art, but am exploring how my work can be produced in a more environmentally friendly manner at lower kiln temperatures. These forms are a series of decorative objects based on plant forms - the voluptuous shapes of peppers and lady slippers and the intricacies of Asian lilies - but they have been altered in ways that respond to my concerns about genetically modified food. These hand built ewers and boxes are made of high-fired porcelainous stoneware. The colours come from the foothills where I live: layers of fields and hills, mountains and sky.
