Listening to things… | Blog-O!

https://weblog.latte.ca/blake/random/microblog/listeningtothings.html

Skip to main content. In high school and university, I used to listen to a lot of music. As I went about my day, there would continually be something on the cd player. But these days I find myself listening to podcasts. In my spare audio time instead, and that strikes me as interesting because without meaning to I seem to have moved from (largely) mass-produced, mass-marketed entertainment to (mostly) independent, informational. The list, in alphabetical order, is: Accidental Tech Podcast.

New kinds of thoughts. | Blog-O!

https://weblog.latte.ca/blake/random/microblog/newthoughts.html

Skip to main content. New kinds of thoughts. Earlier in my life, I would have looked at the new window in the door, and thought Nice! They must have put that in so that people wouldn’t slam the door into other people when they opened it. But now I find myself thinking Nice! They probably put that in so that people wouldn’t slam the door into other people when they opened it, but it also has the beneficial effect of letting people. Comments powered by Disqus. Skip to main content. Let’s Write a WebExtension! This article is also posted on Mozilla Hacks. You might have heard about Mozilla’s WebExtensions. Our implementation of a new browser extension API for writing multiprocess-compatible add-ons. Maybe you’ve been wondering what it was about, and how you could use it. Well, I’m here to help! I think MDN’s WebExtensions Docs. Have a pretty great definition:. WebExtensions are a new way to write Firefox extensions. Okay, let’s start with a reasonably simple ad...

Cordelia | Blog-O!

https://weblog.latte.ca/cordelia

Skip to main content. Today was Cordelia's eight birthday party. Blake's away and Tanya, who usually backs me up at birthday parties, was busy with many things, so I was faced with managing by myself. It didn't take much thought to realize that that wasn't going to go well, so I threw up the bat signal to our babysitter from last year, Emma. Against all odds she was available, so I had a helper. The party was loosely candy themed (because who doesn't like candy? So we started by making candy sushi. It wa...

Big Kids Need Tucking In, Too. 3 Things by Michelle Lehnardt, Scenes from the Wild. Friday, Mar 15, 2013. 3 Things by Michelle Lehnardt, Scenes from the Wild. After the familiar routine of reading stories, singing our good night song and arranging pillows and blankets around my little daughter, I wander into my 11 and 14-year-old boys’ room. Picking my way through the minefield of legos, wet towels and disassembled motors, I find safe haven on the lower bunk bed. My now 19 and 21-year-old sons kept the s...

Adventures of Crazy Biker Chick: July 2006

http://crazybikerchick.blogspot.com/2006_07_01_archive.html

Sunday, July 23, 2006. Last weekend when I was biking to Stratford. When a few posts ago I mentioned epic rides I'd like to do, Blake. Had proposed I ride with him on his crazy planned ride to Balm Beach. Uh no, that's too far! See he was going to stay for a while, and I would need to bike back home) When he explained that what he really meant was ride with him to Holland Landing, whereby we would go separate directions, and I could ride to Lake Simcoe from there, I'm like sure! Lake Simcoe. Keswick?

Amy's Book Log: 2004

http://arbrown.latte.ca/reading.html

McSweeney's Mammoth Treasury of Thrilling Tales. Edited by Michael Chabon. The Final Solution: A Story of Detection. This is a little book about a boy and a parrot and an old detective. It was a quick read and went down easy, like everything Chabon writes. Good ending. Last Chance to Eat: The Fate of Taste in a Fast Food World. Last Chance To Eat. Hen's Teeth and Horse's Toes. By Stephen Jay Gould. And it got me thinking, which is always good. I look forward to Grekul's next book. I think this would be a...

Skip to main content. A long time ago, on a computer far far away. Six years ago, I started contributing to Mozilla. 2014: Ups and Downs (more Downs than Usual). I can’t say 2014 was one of my best years ever. I tried to travel, and failed; the house ate all our money; my mom got sick. On the other hand, my mom got better (and we discovered how much fun it is when I visit her without the kids), and we got kittens. A Pocket of Calm. In some previous code. Menu item or hit. On Mac). Handling Cassandra concurrency issues, using Apache Zookeeper. One of the big problems with CassaFS. When I released the code a week and a half ago. Were all the potential write races that could occur – whether it be multiple nodes trying to create the same file or directory at the same time, or writing to the same block at the same time, just to name a few of the potential concurrency scenarios that could play out. After a bit of testing, Apache Zookeeper. Described as a “Distributed Coordination ...
