UAMS North Central was established by the Arkansas legislature in cooperation with UAMS in 2007. The center works in partnership with the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville and Arkansas State University at Mountain Home. Each college continues to house several UAMS degree programs. In addition to its partnership with the local colleges, UAMS North Central works closely with the White River Medical Center in Batesville and the Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home.

Eight Regional Centers serve as the main educational outreach effort of UAMS, preparing physicians and healthcare professionals to serve in rural areas. The programs offer training for family medicine residents and students in medicine, nursing, pharmacy and some fields of allied health, as well as continuing education for medical professionals.
