What ho Kew!: Exam week

Monday, 24 June 2013. Labels: Field telephone device. Smiles to you. Cx. 24 June 2013 at 20:44. Good luck to you, unknown gardener! I wish I had found your blog before - I stayed a whole month in London, have seen oh so many gardens, squares and parks - and Kew was the only one on my list I didnt manage, being forced to go two times to Hampton Court. I keep my fingers crossed for you - Toodle-oo! Britta (you find me via berlinletters.blogspot.com). 26 June 2013 at 19:38. Wife, Mother, Gardener. Gardens a...

What ho Kew!: February 2013

http://www.whathokew.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

Thursday, 14 February 2013. The Princess of Wales Conservatory is another of Kew’s grand glasshouses, with the primary attraction here being the assortment of controlled climate zones offering a mixed bag of flora. One minute you can be perambulating languidly amongst a chilly desert landscape, marvelling at the spiny cacti, and then the next find yourself on the periphery of a tropical pond, enjoying Amazonian waterlilies! Normal service will resume shortly. Bromeliads provide an excellent counterpoint ...

What ho Kew!: March 2013

http://www.whathokew.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, 31 March 2013. Sadly, this was the last week of my placement in the Palm House. Three glorious months have passed by in the blink of an eye, and after a brief Easter break all first year students will be recalled to the School of Horticulture to begin a gruelling three months of lectures (pint of coffee please, barkeep! The relationships between plants and animals in the rainforest are quite complex, and jolly interesting! Although banana leaves are quite tough and used as plates by native eggs, ...

What ho Kew!: January 2013

http://www.whathokew.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Thursday, 31 January 2013. After a rather mild old time of it, winter recently took hold at Kew with freezing temperatures and delightfully snowy landscapes! Cold snap is lurking just around the corner, lead pipe in hand and waiting patiently to smother such optimism, but until such time we shall proceed blissfully in a haze of positivity and glorious sunshine! The old Palm House seen over the pond, thankfully. It’s warm inside! Snow settles on the unheated Alpine House, with the Rock Garden coated below.

For a life botanic. Oh my god, my last update was in August! Sorry I haven’t written anything for a few months, but I hadn’t quite settled in at home until recently. I returned from my year abroad in November and now I have a new job at the University of Washington Botany Greenhouse. (During my undergrad I regularly volunteered at the greenhouse, but I wouldn’t have thought I would return as an employee in the future! Is still alive, which I am excited about.
