I Poem- Because of Winn Dixie | Jessica Whitley

https://whitleyjr.wordpress.com/2011/10/05/i-poem-because-of-winn-dixie

I Poem- Because of Winn Dixie. I am Opal, lonely and adventurous. I wonder if my mother is ever coming back. I hear bottles chiming on Gloria Dump’s tree. I see my whole world when I look at Winn-Dixie. I want to hear my Mother’s voice. I am Opal, lonely and adventurous. I pretend that some day my parents will be together again. I feel sad when eating a Littmus Lozenge. I touch the hearts of people around me. I worry that Winn-Dixie will run away in a thunderstorm. I cry when I think Winn-Dixie is lost.

Bio-Poem Dave the Potter. Artist, poet, slave and potter. Owned by my master. Who loves gritty grains of dirt, clay between my fingers, and the memories inside each pot I make. Who feels alone, driven and talented. Who finds happiness in making pots and writing poetry. Who needs to to make my mark on each masterpiece I create. Who gives life to a ball of clay. Who fears losing my job, deprived of writing, punished by the master. Who would like to be free and have a last name. Resident of South Carolina.
