I never planned to be a woodcarver. Actually, as a kid with 3 artistically and musically talented sisters, I was thoroughly convinced that there was nothing artistic about me. It wasn't until I was nearing the age of 40 that I decided to do "something stupid" and take an Adult Education drawing class. That ended up being one of those life-altering decisions. The purpose of this blog is to document the progress of carvings I am working on. Small Garden Troll …now completed. The small caving is finished. Now for the 2′ sculpture! Getting there. The squirrel still needs to be textured, then some general cleanup and a couple of coats of polyurethane! Getting the basic shape of the carving. I’ll be using all hand tools…knives and gouges. Once the design is finalized, I sketch a quick side-view. I now have a pattern. To use for cutting out a 3-dimensional blank.
