Angst du Jour: Genetics on a Snowy Hill
http://angstdujour.blogspot.com/2006/06/genetics-on-snowy-hill.html
Wednesday, June 21, 2006. Genetics on a Snowy Hill. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Look at these two pictures; Danielle on the left, me on the right. There is a story not told, hidden truths, and deeper meanings here. These pictures do not tell the whole story; there is so much more. This is a story which can only be told by words. Cognitively, I knew this was a ridiculous worry; at the least, a conceit on my part. At the worst, perhaps even offensive. I told a friend this story recently a...

Angst du Jour: Done to Death
http://angstdujour.blogspot.com/2008/03/done-to-death.html
Sunday, March 23, 2008. More than all of that though, like many of you, I love checking the keyword analysis utility in Statcounter. I’ve learned that quite a few people out there would like to know how to make. Or urgently need to know what. Looks and smells like. And I'm glad I can help with issues like that, although I'm sure the person searching for. Did not count on how we had to prepare. For many keyword searches I've been no help at all. For babies. What the hell? And the term ". Been done to death.

Come, Mommy: June 2006
http://menageriehouse.blogspot.com/2006_06_01_archive.html
Friday, June 30, 2006. What is This Word "Budget" of Which You Speak? We're pretty good with household finance around here. We pay off the credit cards every month, we know how much we spend on the usual bills every month, and we squirrel a little money away for unexpected expenses. But after this week, I'm thinking we vastly underestimated the latter category this year. We have two of those famous bald ferrets. It's the sound of a slush fund imploding. And should I get another Saturn? Ugh But still, it'...

Come, Mommy: Little Kids Are So Literal
http://menageriehouse.blogspot.com/2008/01/little-kids-are-so-literal.html
Monday, January 21, 2008. Little Kids Are So Literal. Tonight I heard Kevin and Liam in the living room. We've had issues recently trying to instill the idea of privacy and private activities in our son; his hand are often in his pants because, well, he's a little boy. (Why did no one inform me that this is one of the downsides of potty training? Kevin: "Hands out of your pants.". Kevin: "Hands out of your pants! Liam: "But I just like my hands IN my pants.". Liam (absolutely horrified): "Oh, no! I want ...

Come, Mommy: Fun With Ferrets
http://menageriehouse.blogspot.com/2006/05/fun-with-ferrets.html
Monday, May 22, 2006. I get a lot of hits from people looking for answers to various ferret questions. I've been keeping track of them for a while, and here are my (not to be confused with an expert's) answers to the recurring ones. 1 How big will my ferret grow? 2 Can I give Imodium to a ferret who is pooping liquid? I wouldn't recommend it. Diarrhea in ferrets can get serious very quickly, and you need to find the root cause of the problem. Call your vet immediately. 3 Why is my ferret going bald?

Angst du Jour: I Am From
http://angstdujour.blogspot.com/2007/03/i-am-from.html
Thursday, March 08, 2007. One of the most evocative posts I've read in a long while was Jennifer's. Meme With a sense of trepidation for following in the footsteps of her perfect post, I'm taking up her challenge to explore where I'm from. I am from the east and from the west. I am from somewhere in between. I am from big skies and open fields and bicycling down hot dusty dirt roads. I am from grasshoppers dancing before me while I walk across a field cracking with drought. I am from a tight knit family.

Angst du Jour: Sun dogs for a January Day
http://angstdujour.blogspot.com/2006/01/sun-dogs-for-january-day.html
Wednesday, January 11, 2006. Sun dogs for a January Day. If this is a type of memory book, then I want it to capture things both large and small. The milestones of our family and the little day to day happenings that change us in some way. The sacred and the mundane, the grand and the innocuous, and the feelings they evoke when the memories are stirred and rise to the surface. In the tradition of my great-grandmother. So, um, how come I haven't seen the "keepers" column until now? You captured it, dear o...
