For the Involved, Alternative Parent! Waldorf Home schooling/Conventional Schooling? We have chosen to purchase natural or wooden toys for our children for a number of different reasons. Another very important reason for non plastic, commercial toys are that these toys hamper their abilities to truly play. Play is very important work for children. If they have toys that do everything for them or toys that leave nothing to the imagination, are they really playing? A Childs Dream Come True.

Archive for August, 2012. August 27, 2012. We had plenty of adventures while Grandma Lynn and Joel were here. The kids are always up for adventures, and the weather was beautiful, so off we went! But I just think if of it as building good habits for life. Check out those sweet swim goggles that Calla is also wearing. She was pining for some goggles so that she could put her face under the water and keep her eyes open. And I caved. She was thrilled! I always love a ferris wheel ride. Whee! On their last f...

Archive for February, 2012. All work, very little play. February 29, 2012. But I took a few minutes to clear off my camera this morning, so you can reap the (scant) rewards. Two weekends ago, before we all got sick, the kids and I went shopping for succulents. I had a project in mind…. Much to my relief, they happily played in that box until I was able to get dinner on the table. Thank Heavens for giant boxes! I’ll be so sad when this phase of their lives is over…. One last thing before I get back to wor...

Birthday #3 | Raising Two Unicorns
https://spinyfern.wordpress.com/2012/11/06/birthday-3
November 6, 2012. Somewhere in a galaxy far, far away, in a time long, long ago, Satchel turned 3. And this is the reason I haven’t blogged it before now. Right before his birthday, while Grandma Lynn and Joel were here, Satchel moved into his new toddler bed. Which seems like a big deal! Moving out of the crib and into a bed officially marks a major transition! So, this guy turned 3 back in August. And we made up for it the next weekend with plenty of cake. One of the exciting things that happened aroun...

Archive for November, 2012. Cleaning out the archives. November 25, 2012. We just returned from our fall 2012 NYC trip, and I have tons of pictures from our adventures. So I need to finish cleaning out the archives from the last couple of months. Here are the rest of the odds and ends. Let’s see…Josh went to Las Vegas with Jeff for a weekend in September (and there are no pictures from that weekend of excitement), so I took a weekend in October to go to Seattle and visit Auntie Sasha. Backing up a little...

Archive for August, 2013. Still alive and kicking in CA. August 13, 2013. Obviously we’ve been busy for the last 8 months. I hadn’t meant to be on a blog hiatus, but apparently it’s turned out that way. I will eventually clear the backlog of picture to catch up our family and friends, but here’s a quick post. Satchel, 1 year old. Satchel, post-haircut in Iowa this July. Satchel, enjoying 7-layer cake in NYC last fall. Satchel, fishing in Iowa in July. Satchel, dressed as an owl last Halloween.
