If you changed your life as a consequence of participating in an an event, it is you who changed it. Investigators, on TV at least, look for motive and opportunity for a crime. Is too prescriptive, so I've come up with a new methodology called "do what works for you" which I hope will work for those people who find the "do the right thing" methodology too prescriptive.
